[What the role is]
Senior/Engineer (Digital Fabrication & Additive Mfg Ctr) / School of Engineering (2-year contract)[What you will be working on]
- Utilise CAD software such as Creo, SolidWorks, and Siemens NX to conceptualise, design, and optimise components and systems that meet performance, quality, manufacturability, and cost objectives.
- Design and develop engineering solutions for projects, particularly in the area of additive manufacturing, ensuring deliverables are completed in accordance with project requirements and timelines.
- Apply engineering principles and design methodologies to address technical challenges, with a focus on functionality, reliability, and manufacturability.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including scientists, engineers, and procurement stakeholders across various centres, to support product development and project execution.
- Provide technical guidance and knowledge sharing to junior engineers, researchers, and students where appropriate.
- Evaluate emerging design methodologies, materials, and manufacturing technologies to improve engineering outcomes and operational efficiency.
- Support research and development activities, including prototyping, testing, validation, and design optimisation.
- Supervise and mentor students involved in research and development projects, supporting their technical learning and development.
- Contribute technical expertise to grant applications, research proposals, consultancy projects, and industry-funded initiatives.
- Support engagement with industry partners and stakeholders in project discussions, technology transfer activities, and collaboration opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with relevant engineering standards, safety requirements, quality systems, and regulatory guidelines throughout the design and development life cycle.
- Prepare technical reports, project documentation, presentations, and other engineering deliverables as required.
[What we are looking for]
- Qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Product Design, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in engineering design, product development, or advanced manufacturing.
- Proficiency in CAD software such as Creo, SolidWorks, Siemens NX, or equivalent engineering design tools.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience in Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) principles and methodologies.
- Experience with Additive Manufacturing (AM) technologies, materials, and processes will be an advantage.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop practical engineering solutions and support process improvements.
- Ability to manage assigned projects independently and deliver outcomes within established timelines and quality standards.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the preparation of technical documentation, reports, and presentations.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams comprising engineers, researchers, students, and industry partners.
- Experience in supervising or guiding students, interns, or junior engineers will be an advantage.
- Keen interest in emerging engineering technologies and a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
