We are proud to be partnering with our client, a leading international bank with a strong presence in Asia and an ambitious growth strategy across the region. With deep expertise in corporate and investment banking, the organisation is poised for its next phase of development, underpinned by a focus on structured finance, derivatives, and regulatory excellence. To support this evolution, there is a critical need to appoint a Senior Legal Counsel: a technically strong and commercially minded lawyer who will partner closely with the business to enable growth while ensuring robust governance.

Position Overview

Reporting directly to the General Counsel, you will be responsible for providing legal and regulatory support across the banks securities, derivatives, and structured products businesses in Singapore and the wider region. This is a pivotal role in a lean, high-performing legal team where you will help design and implement frameworks, manage transactional execution, and advise senior stakeholders on a broad range of matters including structured products advisory, ISDA negotiations, regulatory issues, and general finance work.

You will act as a trusted legal adviser to front office teams, enabling structured growth while safeguarding the banks legal and regulatory position. This role will also involve significant cross-border engagement.

Key Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate ISDA Master Agreements, CSAs, and related derivatives documentation.
• Provide legal advisory support on structured products, securities transactions, repos, and financing arrangements.
• Advise the business on regulatory matters impacting derivatives and structured products, including MAS and other cross-border regimes.
• Partner with the General Counsel in setting up legal and compliance frameworks to support growth and ensure risk management.
• Work closely with traders, structurers, and sales teams to balance commercial objectives with sound legal advice.
• Manage relationships with external counsel, ensuring cost-efficient and effective support.
• Collaborate with colleagues across global offices to align approaches and share best practices.

The Successful Applicant

The ideal candidate is a qualified lawyer with 610 years post-qualification experience, gained at a leading international law firm and/or financial institution. You will bring strong technical expertise in derivatives and structured products, with hands-on experience in negotiating ISDAs and related documentation.

A sound understanding of securities and finance transactions, together with knowledge of Singapore and cross-border regulatory frameworks (e.g., MAS, EMIR, Dodd-Frank, HKMA) is essential. You are commercially minded, pragmatic, and able to distil complex legal issues into clear, actionable advice for business stakeholders

Your stakeholder management skills are strong, and you are comfortable operating in a fast-paced, global environment with exposure to senior management. This is a role for a driven and adaptable lawyer who thrives on responsibility and seeks to play a meaningful role in shaping legal frameworks within a growing banking platform.
