Job Description
Job Description Summary
The Senior Contracts Manager will serve as the senior contracting advisor for the development, construction, procurement, and delivery of NTT Global Data Centers projects across APAC, including India, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, and other assigned markets.
Reporting to the Director, Global Contracts, this role will be the region's primary contracting advisor and a strategic partner to Supply Chain, Construction, Development, Engineering, Finance, Legal, and other stakeholders.
The role will lead complex contract negotiations, advise on commercial risk, and help develop scalable contracting structures across multiple projects, entities, and jurisdictions. As the most senior contracting voice in the region, the role is expected to exercise independent judgment and to be the first call for regional and country leadership on commercial risk.
Successful candidates will demonstrate strong ownership, judgment, commercial awareness, practicality, collaboration, and a continuous improvement mindset. The strongest candidates are builders: comfortable with ambiguity, willing to create structure where none yet exists, and energized rather than frustrated by scope that is still being defined.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead drafting, review, negotiation, and execution of construction, EPC/EPCM, design, professional services, equipment procurement, framework, master services, and project-specific agreements.
- Negotiate key commercial terms including liability, indemnity, insurance, warranties, schedule, delay, liquidated damages, payment, performance security, termination, and dispute resolution.
- Partner with Supply Chain and Category Management to determine the appropriate contracting strategy, including regional frameworks, country riders, local agreements, purchase orders, and statements of work.
- Support appropriate use of NTT contracting entities and coordinate with Legal, Tax, Finance, Risk, and other specialists on country-specific requirements.
- Anticipate contracting needs based on project pipeline, procurement strategy, critical equipment, and construction schedules.
- Identify opportunities to create scalable contracting structures across projects, suppliers, campuses, and countries.
- Act as the trusted advisor to regional and country leadership on contracting strategy, escalations, and commercial risk decisions.
- Translate contractual issues into practical commercial guidance for business stakeholders.
- Support contract interpretation, change management, performance issues, and claims avoidance during project execution.
- Promote consistent use of approved templates, playbooks, fallback positions, and contracting procedures.
- Capture recurring negotiation issues and supplier precedents and recommend improvements to contracting standards and processes.
Knowledge & Attributes
- Demonstrated ability to independently lead sophisticated contract negotiations.
- Strong understanding of commercial risk allocation and contract strategy.
Academic Qualifications & Certifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience required.
- JD, LLB, law degree, or equivalent legal or commercial contracting qualification preferred.
Required Experience
- 10+ years of experience negotiating complex commercial contracts in data centers, construction, infrastructure, engineering, technology, or another capital-intensive industry.
- Experience working across multiple jurisdictions and with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple complex matters with limited supervision.
Preferred
- Experience with data centers, mission-critical infrastructure, or large-scale construction.
- Experience with EPC, EPCM, FIDIC, design-build, professional services, and major equipment procurement agreements.
- Experience with APAC markets, regional frameworks, country riders, and multi-entity contracting structures.
- In-house contracting or commercial experience at a hyperscaler, major technology company, or other organization operating at global scale, combined with an appetite for a less mature, faster-moving environment.
- Experience developing templates, playbooks, clause libraries, or contracting governance programs.
- Working proficiency in a regional language in addition to English and demonstrated effectiveness working with local supplier and stakeholder norms across Asian markets.
