Job Description

About the role:

The Senior Camera Operator's main responsibilities are to capture high-quality footage across a variety of productions.

The ideal candidate combines technical expertise with creative vision, operating professional camera equipment while also handling camera assistant duties when needed. This versatile role requires the ability to work independently or as part of a larger crew, adapting to various production scales and requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Able to shoot as a Director of Photography or primary camera operator on a wide range of productions when needed from fast, run-and-gun interviews and on-the-ground captures to more controlled studio and location setups.
  • Adapt quickly to different crew sizes: work lean with a skinny crew (or solo with support) on tight, mobile shoots, and lead larger camera and lighting teams for bigger productions.
  • Develop visual treatments, shot plans and lighting approaches that serve both the narrative and the brand.
  • Make decisions on cameras, lenses, grip and lighting that match the project's aesthetic, budget and schedule.
  • Shape composition, movement and blocking to bring out character, emotion and clarity in each scene.
  • Work with art directors, designers and gaffers to maintain a cohesive look across episodes and seasons.
  • Uphold best practices for on-set safety, equipment care and data handling (in collaboration with production).
  • Perform precise focus pulling using follow focus systems, wireless controls, and measuring tools
  • Conduct thorough camera prep and testing, checking for sensor dust and lens calibration
  • Clean and maintain lenses, filters, and camera sensors
  • Mark actor positions and set focus marks for complex shots
  • Slate shots accurately with timecode and scene information
  • Handle lens changes quickly and efficiently during production
  • Set up and operate wireless video transmission systems for monitoring

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience as DoP/Cinematographer/Camera Operator with a strong track record of broadcast, branded, documentary or narrative projects. (Reel/links must clearly demonstrate the above.)
  • Deep familiarity with a variety of camera systems, lenses, lighting fixtures and grip equipment suitable for both lean and larger crews.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills; able to work closely with directors, talent and crew, often in fast-moving environments.

*Please note that this is a 2 year contract role.
