Senior Business Development Manager

Role Overview
A fast-growing pharmaceutical development and manufacturing partner is seeking a Business Development Manager to strengthen its international customer base and unlock new commercial opportunities. The company is a mid-sized, innovation-driven CDMO with established capabilities in oral solid dosage, sterile fill-finish operations, and integrated development services. Operating within a lean and agile team and reporting to the Head of Business Development, the successful individual will lead market expansion efforts, deepen customer engagement, and position the organisation as a trusted partner for biotech and pharmaceutical clients.
This is a high-impact mandate for candidates who thrive in externally facing roles and who understand the technical and operational intricacies of pharmaceutical manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Generate and qualify new commercial leads across US and European markets while nurturing long-term relationships with decision makers.
- Build structured account plans, define target lists, and drive purposeful commercial campaigns aligned to market priorities.
- Facilitate introductory conversations, capability overviews, and client visits that highlight the organisation's strengths across OSD and sterile fill-finish manufacturing.
- Prepare well-scoped proposals and quotations and support the timely finalisation of commercial agreements.
- Partner with operations, technical, and project teams to translate customer requirements into clear service scopes and viable project plans.
- Monitor shifts in customer demand, competitor activity, and regulatory developments to support strategic positioning.
- Maintain strong internal connectivity to ensure accurate communication of capability updates, project needs, and client expectations.
- Contribute to improvement initiatives that enhance customer experience and strengthen delivery reliability.
- Support strategic growth programmes designed to elevate the organisation's global commercial footprint.
- Report commercial progress, challenges, and insights to senior leadership to guide business planning.
Key Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific field such as pharmacy, biology, chemistry, biochemistry or microbiology.
- At least 8 years of business development or commercial experience in the life sciences sector, ideally within a CDMO or CMO.
- Strong understanding of formulation development, pharmaceutical manufacturing and associated commercial processes.
- Effective communication, negotiation and presentation skills, with the ability to engage clients at multiple levels.
- Proven ability to operate independently within a lean structure and to manage cross-functional interactions with global stakeholders.
- Ability to travel approximately 20 percent to 30 percent for commercial activities.
- Proficiency in Mandarin is required to liaise with Mandarin-speaking internal and external stakeholders and to understand product technical origins.
