Job Description

The Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) trains doctors who put patients at the centre of their exemplary care. The School, which offers both undergraduate and graduate programmes, is named after local philanthropist Tan Sri Dato Lee Kong Chian. Established in 2010 by Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in partnership with Imperial College London, LKCMedicine aims to be a model for innovative medical education and a centre for transformative research. The School's primary clinical partner is the National Healthcare Group, a leader in public healthcare recognised for the quality of its medical expertise, facilities and teaching. The School is transitioning to an NTU medical school ahead of the 2028 successful conclusion of the NTU-Imperial partnership to set up a Joint Medical School. In August 2024, we welcomed our first intake of the NTU MBBS programme, that has been recently enhanced to include themes like precision medicine and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare, with an expanded scope in the medical humanities. Graduates from the five-year undergraduate medical degree programme will have a strong understanding of the scientific basis of medicine, with an emphasis on technology, data science and the humanities.

This role will manage the strategic development and delivery of an effective and engaging information literacy program that supports the institution's learning, teaching, and research activities. This role will enable students, faculty, and researchers to confidently gather, manage, evaluate, synthesize, and ethically use information and data. Additionally, the Librarian will lead professional services and initiatives that support the full research lifecycle-from planning and discovery to publication, impact, and archiving-to promote the scholarly output of the community.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct, manage, and deliver a comprehensive information literacy program through in-person and online instruction, workshops, and consultations.

  • Provide expert guidance and training on advanced search strategies, literature reviews, the research process, reference management tools, and academic writing.

  • Collaborate with faculty to strategically embed information literacy into the curriculum, providing instructional support for various teaching methods, including Team-Based Learning (TBL).

  • Develop, manage, and promote the library's collections-including books, journals, and electronic databases-to ensure they are relevant and critical for user needs.

  • Create and disseminate a wide range of instructional and support materials, such as online tutorials, learning activities, interactive tools, and print guides, to promote academic integrity and self-paced learning.

  • Manage and promote services and resources related to scholarly communication, including author rights, open access, and research impact.

  • Lead an effective search service to support faculty and researchers in their advanced research and publishing endeavors.

  • Continuously monitor trends, user feedback, and institutional policies to ensure the ongoing improvement and innovation of library operations and services.

  • Assist in managing the daily operations of the library, which may include supervising support staff and contributing to administrative tasks.

  • Undertake additional responsibilities and lead assigned projects or service improvement initiatives.

Requirements:

  • A good bachelor's degree plus a master's degree in Library or Information Science or equivalent postgraduate qualification recognized by the Library Association of Singapore (LAS)

  • At least 5 years work experience in a tertiary/research/medical library

  • Good communication skills (writing and speaking)

  • Good independent learning skills with a strong desire for continual life-long learning

  • Good organizational and time management skills

  • Embraces changes in technology and environment

  • Good inter-personal skills and able to relate well to users and colleagues
