Senior Application Engineer

Position Summary

The Applications Engineer serves as a technical and market-facing expert responsible for supporting business growth through application development, customer consultation, technical demonstrations, and solution-based selling. The role collaborates closely with Sales, Service, Marketing, and Global Product Teams to identify customer needs, develop differentiated solutions, and enhance customer experience throughout the sales cycle.

The successful candidate combines strong material testing expertise with customer-focused problem-solving, business insight, and technical consulting capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Customer & Technical Support

• Provide timely pre-sales and post-sales technical support to customers and internal stakeholders.
• Analyze customer testing requirements and recommend optimized equipment configurations and solutions.
• Conduct sample testing, application development, and product demonstrations.
• Interpret test results and prepare technical reports and recommendations.
• Resolve complex application-related issues in partnership with service and product teams.

Market & Business Development

• Monitor market trends, customer requirements, and competitive developments.
• Identify application opportunities and support market expansion initiatives.
• Develop competitive positioning and technical value propositions for targeted industries.
• Partner with Sales teams on opportunity qualification and technical strategy.

Marketing & Knowledge Development

• Support technical seminars, webinars, exhibitions, and industry conferences.
• Develop technical content, case studies, application notes, presentations, and sales tools.
• Contribute to social media and marketing content development.
• Promote customer awareness of Instron technologies and solutions.

Training & Capability Building

• Deliver product, application, and industry-related training programs.
• Share best practices and application knowledge internally.
• Support capability development within Sales and Service teams.

Continuous Improvement

• Identify opportunities to improve processes, application methodologies, and customer experience.
• Support new product launches and feedback collection activities.
• Maintain close communication with global teams regarding market requirements and customer VOC.

Qualifications

Education

• Master's degree or above in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Polymer Engineering, or related disciplines.

Experience

• Minimum 5 years of experience in materials testing, laboratory environments, or application engineering.
• Hands-on experience with universal testing systems, materials characterization, or related testing equipment.
• Experience supporting customers in industrial, research, or quality environments.
