AI Engineer (Singapore-Based)

We are looking for an experienced AI Engineer to build practical AI products that solve real business and user problems.

You will work at the intersection of AI agents, automation and product engineering. Projects include internal operational tools, AI agents, data products, recruitment solutions, customer service tools and platforms supporting global users and real time interactions.

As the first dedicated AI Engineer in this new team, you will have meaningful influence over its technical direction. You will work closely with an AI Product Manager, data scientists, business stakeholders and engineers from across the organisation.

This is a hands on individual contributor role with significant ownership. You will be expected to understand the user problem, shape the solution, build the product and operate it in production.

This is a permanent role with hybrid work arrangements.

What you will do

• Build AI products from initial discovery and prototyping through to launch, measurement and iteration
• Own the backend of each product, including model orchestration, retrieval layers, APIs, data flows, storage systems and middleware
• Set technical direction and make architecture decisions for the systems you own
• Select the right approach for each problem, including prompting, RAG, fine tuning, agents and classical machine learning
• Build reliable AI systems using evaluations, guardrails, fallbacks and human review workflows
• Design clear error handling for cases where models produce incorrect or unreliable outputs
• Own monitoring, incident response and quality investigations after launch
• Maintain high standards for system design, code quality and technical reviews
• Work across infrastructure, backend services, frontend components and product metrics where required
• Explain technical choices and trade offs clearly to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders

What we are looking for

• At least five years of full time software engineering experience
• Strong experience taking products from zero to one
• Proven ownership across design, development, deployment and production support
• A strong backend foundation covering system design, distributed systems, databases, caching and message queues
• Practical experience building LLM products beyond basic API integration
• Knowledge of common LLM product patterns including chat, copilots, RAG and agentic AI systems
• Sound judgement when choosing between prompting and fine tuning, retrieval and long context, or automation and human review
• Strong understanding of AI reliability, evaluations, guardrails and production risks
• Confidence reading and modifying code across common backend languages
• The ability to work across APIs, infrastructure, frontend systems and product analytics
• Strong product thinking with the ability to connect engineering choices to user needs and measurable outcomes
• Clear and structured communication when explaining architecture and defending technical decisions
• Strong collaboration skills across product, data science, business, operations and end user teams
• A proactive and adaptable approach, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability
• Experience building products for more than 1,000 users or working within a large technology or product engineering environment would be valuable.
