Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accounting Officer to oversee full-spectrum accounting functions for our trading and steel-rebar operations. This role requires strong knowledge of trading workflows, inventory costing, logistics documentation, and multi-currency transactions. The ideal candidate is hands-on, analytical, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Manage full set of accounts including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, bank reconciliation, and month-end closing to ensure accurate financial records
- Prepare monthly financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses to support informed business decisions
- Maintain accounting records in compliance with Singapore Financial Reporting Standards (SFRS) to uphold statutory accuracy
- Monitor cash flow and develop cash flow forecasts to support treasury functions and liquidity management
- Oversee accounting processes for import/export transactions, including letters of credit (LC), telegraphic transfers (TT), shipping documents, and trade financing to ensure transaction accuracy
- Track inventory movement, including rebar stock-in/out, weight-based costing, wastage, and adjustments to maintain precise inventory valuation
- Verify supplier invoices against purchase orders, delivery orders, packing lists, mill certificates, and weighbridge tickets to ensure payment accuracy
- Manage multi-currency transactions, perform foreign exchange revaluation, and ensure costing accuracy to mitigate financial risks
- Collaborate with operations teams on shipment schedules, delivery orders, and customer billing to align financial and operational activities
- Process supplier invoices, staff claims, and payments to maintain timely and accurate accounts payable
- Issue customer invoices, monitor collections, and follow up on outstanding payments to optimize cash inflows
- Reconcile supplier statements and customer accounts to resolve discrepancies and maintain account accuracy
- Prepare GST submissions, withholding tax documentation, and support corporate tax filings to ensure tax compliance
- Ensure compliance with Singapore statutory requirements including IRAS, CPF, MOM, and ACRA to meet regulatory obligations
- Liaise with auditors, tax agents, banks, and government agencies to facilitate audits and regulatory reporting
- Strengthen internal controls related to trading documentation and inventory accuracy to reduce risks and improve reliability
- Identify and implement improvements in accounting workflows and best practices to enhance operational efficiency
- Support system enhancements and digitalisation initiatives to modernize accounting processes and increase productivity
Preferred competencies and qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Professional certifications such as ACCA, CPA, or ISCA are advantageous
- Minimum 3-5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in trading, commodities, construction materials, or steel/rebar industry
- Familiarity with letters of credit, shipping documents, and trade finance operations
- Proficiency in MS Excel and accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, SAP, or similar platforms
- Strong analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines
- Effective communication skills in English and Mandarin
