Job Description

Job Purpose

We are seeking an experienced Senior Able Seaman (Senior AB) to lead deck operations, support the Master/Boatman, and ensure safe and efficient marine transportation, lighterage, cargo handling, and vessel maintenance.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

1. Vessel Operations & Navigation

  • Assist the Master/Boatman in safe navigation, maneuvering, and vessel movements.

  • Lead and assist in berthing, unberthing, mooring, and unmooring operations.

  • Safely operate deck machinery, mooring lines, anchors, and associated equipment.

  • Maintain a vigilant navigational and deck lookout at all times.

  • Follow instructions given by the Master/Boatman.

2. Cargo & Lighterage Operations

  • Oversee and assist with loading, unloading, shifting, and lashing cargo on board.

  • Ensure all cargo and marine supplies are properly secured and safe for transport.

  • Manage delivery and collection of cargo, deck stores, equipment, and supplies.

  • Maintain cargo hold cleanliness and safe working conditions across deck areas.

3. Deck Maintenance & Upkeep

  • Perform routine deck cleaning, chipping, painting, greasing, and rust prevention.

  • Conduct regular inspections of mooring lines, deck machinery, and emergency gear.

  • Identify defects, wear, or unsafe conditions and report directly to the Master/Boatman.

4. Safety & Compliance

  • Strictly enforce company safety protocols, Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) guidelines, and international maritime regulations.

  • Maintain proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) standards for all deck operations.

  • Lead by example in toolbox meetings, safety briefings, and emergency drills (Fire, MOB, Vessel Emergencies).

  • Report all incidents, near misses, and safety hazards immediately.

5. General Deck Support

  • Assist with bunkering operations (fuel and fresh water intake) and supply loading.

  • Assist in maintaining vessel inventory, deck equipment, and tool condition.

  • Support overall crew welfare, routine vessel checks, and perform operational tasks assigned by management.

Work Requirements

  • Experience: Proven track record in a similar Able Seaman or deck rating role prior experience on lighterage, harbor craft, or tug vessels is strongly preferred.

  • Certifications: Valid maritime certifications (e.g., MPA-recognized Deck Rating / Steersman certificates, STCW modules, Port Limit Helmsman, or equivalent) will be an advantage.

  • Working Conditions: Must be comfortable working on board vessels in outdoor and physically demanding environments.

  • Flexibility: Willing to work according to vessel schedules, including weekends, public holidays, and extended shifts when required.

  • Safety Mindset: Proven ability to work safely and effectively in a maritime team environment.

  • Eligibility: Open to Singaporeans, Permanent Residents (PR), and Malaysians.
