Sanctions Counsel

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Sanctions Counsel with a leading commodities firm.

As the Sanctions Counsel, you will be responsible for providing strategic advisory on trade sanctions and export controls matters. You will also be expected to monitor and advise the management on the various regulatory developments and export control laws and provide compliance training.

Responsibilities:

• Serve as the primary legal advisor on international sanctions and trade restrictions affecting global trading activities.
• Conduct sanctions risk assessments and support periodic reviews of sanctions controls, policies, and procedures.
• Review and escalate sanctions-related KYC issues, counterparty due diligence matters, and transactional screening alerts.
• Provide expert guidance on trade sanctions, export controls, and anti-corruption laws
• Keep abreast of evolving trade controls and compliance-related risks, and proactively communicate insights to relevant stakeholders
• Design and deliver tailored compliance training programs on trade compliance matters to foster a culture of compliance within the organization

Requirements:

• Law degree required. Admission to practice law in a recognised jurisdiction is highly preferred.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and develop effective compliance frameworks
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization
