The Sales Designer is a hybrid role that combines consultative sales with interior design and space planning expertise. The primary objective is to guide clients through the process of designing and purchasing custom storage solutions (e.g., closets, wardrobes, kitchens, built-in units), converting consultations into closed sales by providing compelling, functional, and aesthetically pleasing designs.
1. Client Consultation & Needs Assessment (The Sales Start)
Conduct initial consultations with clients in-home, at the showroom, or virtually.
Perform detailed site measurements and assessments of the existing space.
Actively listen to understand the client's lifestyle, storage needs, aesthetic preferences, and budget.
Build rapport and trust, positioning yourself as a knowledgeable and reliable expert.
2. Design Development & Sales Presentation (The Core Function)
Create custom design solutions using specialized cabinetry software (e.g., 2020 Design, SketchList, Pro100, AutoCAD).
Develop professional presentations including 2D floor plans, 3D renderings, and material boards to visualize the final product.
Select appropriate materials, finishes, hardware, and interior organizers based on client needs and product offerings.
Prepare and present detailed, accurate quotations and proposals.
Key Sales Activity: Articulate the value proposition, justify costs through design benefits and quality, and overcome objections to secure the sale.
3. Project Management & Coordination (Post-Sale Service)
Serve as the primary point of contact for the client throughout the process, from signed contract to final installation.
Finalize all technical drawings and specifications for the manufacturing team.
Coordinate with the company's project managers, production department, and installation teams to ensure seamless execution.
Conduct pre-installation site checks and be present during key phases (e.g., installation day) to address any on-site questions or adjustments.
4. Sales & Business Development
Manage and grow a personal pipeline of leads and projects.
Follow up on inquiries and nurture potential clients.
Achieve or exceed individual and/or team sales targets and KPIs (e.g., closing rate, average project value).
Generate referrals through excellent service and maintain client relationships for future business.
Participate in showroom events, home shows, or networking activities to generate new leads.
5. Product & Market Expertise
Maintain expert-level knowledge of the company's product lines, capabilities, and pricing.
Stay current on industry trends, new materials, hardware innovations, and design styles.
Understand competitors offerings to effectively differentiate and position your company's solutions.
Education & Experience: A degree or certification in Interior Design, Space Planning, or a related field is a strong asset. Proven experience (2-5 years) in a sales-driven design role, preferably within custom cabinetry, closets, kitchens, or retail furniture.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in design/sales software (e.g., 2020 Design, SketchUp, Chief Architect, AutoCAD LT).
Proficiency in CRM software and standard office tools (Microsoft Office/Google Workspace).
Ability to read and create technical drawings.
Essential Soft Skills:
Sales Acumen: A natural closer with strong negotiation and persuasion skills. Comfortable discussing budgets and closing deals.
Design Flair: A strong eye for aesthetics, proportion, color, and spatial relationships.
