SAFETY COORDINATOR

Key Responsibilities

1. Pre-Construction & Planning

• Review project HSE plan, risk assessments, and method statements (RAMS)

• Identify fit-out-specific hazards:

  • Hot works

  • Working at height (ladders, scaffolds, MEWPs)

  • Electrical works (temporary power, live testing)

  • Confined or occupied spaces

  • Material handling and storage

• Ensure permits to work are in place (hot work, electrical isolation, night work, etc.)

• Coordinate with client, main contractor, and building management

2. Site Safety Implementation

• Enforce site safety rules and company HSE policies

• Ensure proper PPE compliance

• Maintain safe access, egress, and housekeeping

• Verify proper use of:

  • Scaffolding and ladders

  • Power tools and machinery

  • Fire safety equipment

• Monitor subcontractors safety practices

3. Toolbox Talks & Training

• Conduct regular toolbox talks relevant to fit-out activities:

  • Working in occupied buildings

  • Dust, noise, and vibration control

  • Manual handling

  • Fire prevention and emergency response

• Ensure all workers:

  • Are site-inducted

  • Hold valid certifications (e.g., electrical, work at height)

• Maintain training and induction records

4. Inspections & Audits

• Carry out daily and weekly site safety inspections

• Identify unsafe acts and conditions

• Issue corrective action notices and follow up on closure

• Participate in client or consultant safety audits

5. Incident & Emergency Management

• Lead immediate response to accidents or near misses

• Ensure proper first aid and emergency procedures

• Conduct incident investigations and root-cause analysis

• Prepare and submit incident reports

• Implement preventive actions to avoid recurrence
