Mission of the Role

The Risk and Compliance Manager is responsible for establishing, monitoring, and enforcing the risk and compliance framework for all trading activities within Abaqa Power. This includes overseeing risk metrics (VaR, MTM, exposures), validating hedge strategies, ensuring compliance with regulations, and communicating risk insights to senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Risk & Compliance Framework

  • Design hedging frameworks integrating both physical and derivative positions into the company's risk system.
  • Establish and enforce risk policies and limits, including VaR, stress testing, and exposure guidelines.
  • Act as gatekeeper for trade approvals, compliance checks, and risk escalations.

Risk Monitoring & Reporting

  • Monitor trading activity, P&L attribution, exceptions, and limit breaches.
  • Ensure daily mark-to-market, collateral, margin management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Perform portfolio risk analysis using VaR models (parametric & historical) across holding periods.
  • Develop and present risk dashboards and reports to senior management.

Governance & Compliance

  • Liaise with finance and treasury for hedge accounting, capital, and funding requirements.
  • Coordinate with auditors, external regulators, and financial institutions.
  • Support internal audit, ISMS, and QHSE compliance (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, ISO 27001).

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Communicate risk and performance insights to traders and leadership.
  • Build risk awareness and training across the trading team.
  • Manage relationships with suppliers, banks, vessel owners, service providers, and regulators.

Others

  • Extend support to cross-functional initiatives.
  • Protect information assets and ensure integrity, confidentiality, and availability of data.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, or related field. MBA is a plus.
  • Experience: 5+ years in commodity risk management (energy/industrial commodities), ideally within trading firms or corporates.
  • Strong command of VaR, stress testing, and risk frameworks.
  • Proficiency in risk software (Murex, Calypso, Bloomberg), SQL, Python, and Excel.
  • Familiarity with IFRS hedge accounting and regulatory requirements.
  • Preferred: Exposure to coal/energy markets and regional trading knowledge. Certifications: CFA/FRM or equivalent preferred.
  • Soft Skills: Strong communication skills, strategic mindset, structured thinker, and stakeholder management.
