Role Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Scientist to join Bosch's Research and Development team in Singapore. As a part of our global research unit, our Singapore team's focus is on the domain of sustainability. This role offers an exciting opportunity to explore the usage of AI and advanced solutions in the field of HVAC engineering and control. As a Senior Research Scientist, you will collaborate with the research team, business units and external partners to develop cutting-edge technologies and commercialize innovative solutions, contributing to Bosch's long-term product portfolio.

What you will do (Key Responsibilities)

  • Drive innovation in the area of Urban Solutions and Sustainability, particularly in the Sustainable HVACs domain, focusing on IoT-enabled features for enhanced user comfort, wellbeing, and indoor air quality.
  • Co-create with business units in relation to sustainability initiatives, contribute to the long-term product portfolio of Bosch, perform customer interviews, formulate problem statements, and generate innovation pitching and research proposals.
  • Lead the end-to-end development of IoT solutions, from sensor selection and data acquisition to cloud processing, feature extraction, and the creation of new user-centric functions.
  • Design and execute experiments to validate new sensor technologies and data-driven features, developing prototypes that demonstrate tangible improvements to the user's life via data processing.
  • Build cooperation, assess, and identify Best-In-Class within local institutions and universities for potential research and innovation collaboration.
  • Regular alignment with Strategic Research Portfolio Owner, quarterly project review updates, stakeholder management, and idea pitching via the Bosch Innovation Framework.

Qualifications

What We're Looking For (Qualifications & Skills)

  • Min. Master's or PhD degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with a thesis and projects addressing qualifications in IoT, sensor systems, and data analysis.
  • Experience as an R&D engineer in developing and deploying IoT solutions, including hardware integration, data collection, and analysis.
  • Experience with various sensors (e.g., temperature, humidity, CO2, VOCs) and extracting meaningful features from time-series data to model user comfort, wellbeing, and indoor air quality.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and services for IoT data management, processing, and analytics is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with Python, data science tools, and protocols common in IoT systems (e.g., MQTT, CoAP).
  • Awareness of the latest developments in IoT, sensor technology, and their application to smart buildings and HVAC systems.
  • Passion for innovation, an entrepreneurial spirit, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team, with a good working attitude and the ability to adapt in a dynamic environment.
