Job Description

We are seeking a proactive and adaptable Research Operations Officer to provide hands-on operational support for A.STAR SRL and SRIS.

This role is focused on supporting the smooth day-to-day functioning of research laboratories while contributing to general operational activities across the institute and requires someone who is comfortable working on the ground, coordinating logistics, and ensuring operational processes are carried out efficiently and accurately.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Research Operations Lead and Planning & Operations team to support laboratory readiness and general operational needs.

Key Accountabilities

Laboratory Operations Support

  • Provide on-the-ground support for A.STAR SRL and SRIS laboratory operations, including coordination of laboratory access, supplies, consumables, and essential operational materials.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe, organised, and operationally ready laboratory environment, including serving as a dept safety representative to support lab operational safety.
  • Coordinate with vendors, facilities, and internal stakeholders to ensure timely delivery and availability of laboratory resources.
  • Support laboratory set-ups, relocations, and operational activities.
  • Assist with asset-related activities, where required.

General Operations Support

  • Assist with general administrative and coordination tasks across Planning & Operations as required e.g., Invoice management, Goods Receipt, tracking of temp access passes, business continuity, events logistics support, as well as other tasks, as delegated.
  • Act as a Procurement Advocate, supporting laboratory users with basic procurement guidance and advising on best practices to facilitate compliant and efficient purchasing processes.
  • Support licence subscriptions and management, including renewals and issuance.
  • Manage and track laboratory notebooks, including issuance and record-keeping.

Compliance & Documentation

  • Support compliance with institutional policies and operational procedures related to laboratory and general operations.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation for assigned operational activities.
  • Support the documentation of SOPs and work instructions for routine operational processes.

Job Requirements

  • A Bachelor's in Science, Engineering, Facilities Management, Operations, or a related discipline.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in laboratory operations, research support, facilities management, or general operations within a research or technical environment.
  • Detail-oriented, organised, and dependable, with a practical, hands-on approach to work.
  • Good coordination and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with researchers, operations staff, and external vendors.
  • Comfortable managing routine tasks alongside ad hoc operational requests in a dynamic environment.
  • A collaborative team player with a positive attitude and willingness to support operational priorities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Able to meet the physical demands of the role, including handling and lifting of laboratory equipment and assets, in compliance with institutional safety and workplace health requirements.
  • Adaptable to work exigencies
