Job Description

We are seeking one (1) talented postdoctoral researcher to join the Synthetic Biology Translational Research Programme (TRP) at the National University of Singapore Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The Synthetic Biology TRP seeks to repurpose biology for positive clinical impact, specifically by developing next generation small molecule deliverables to enhance the resilience of host- or environment-associated microbial communities.

The Research Fellow (RF) will work closely with the Principal Investigator and the research team to characterize and engineer environmental small molecules as drivers of microbial communities. Appointments will be initially made on a 1-year contract, with the possibility of extension.

Responsibilities:

  1. Determine how environmental small molecules affect complex microbial communities in vitro and in vivo
  2. Mentor research assistants, graduate, and undergraduate students
  3. Assist in any other duties delegated by the Principal Investigator and group leaders.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will:

  1. Hold a PhD in Chemistry, Biology, Genetics, Physiology, or a related (sub)field
  2. Possess strong hands-on experience in microbial cultivation, natural products chemistry, mouse models of disease
  3. Be proficient in designing and conducting experiments involving gene and protein expression, microbial cultivation, and data analysis
  4. Demonstrate the ability to work independently and collaboratively, with a high level of scientific rigor and attention to detail
  5. Have a track record of publications in reputable international journals.
