Job Description

The School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) provides a vibrant and nurturing environment for staff and students to carry out inter-disciplinary research in key areas such as Computational Materials Science, Characterisation Materials Science, Defence Composite Materials, Functional Composite Materials, Energy, Nanomaterials, Low Dimensional Materials, Biomaterials Materials, Biological Materials, Bioinspired Materials and Sustainable Materials.

The MWM Research Group investigates how structure, topology, and chemical interactions govern deformation, durability, and end-of-life behavior in polymer materials. Working at the intersection of polymer mechanics and materials design, the group develops polymer networks capable of operating under extreme loading and environmental conditions. The group's research advances polymer network design to achieve high mechanical performance for the evolving demands of modern technologies.

We are seeking a Research Fellow to develop and study polymeric materials and networks, with a focus on mechanical performance under extreme loading and environmental conditions. The role focuses integrates polymer design, processing, and experimental characterization to establish processing-structure-property-performance relationships. Through these contributions, the Research Fellow will support NTU's mission of research excellence and societal impact through innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead research activities to ensure the timely completion of project objectives and deliverables.

  • Design, prepare and process polymer networks for experimental study.

  • Conduct experimental characterization of polymer materials, including chemical, structural, mechanical and rheological measurements.

  • Investigate structure-processing-property relationships to understand how polymer architecture influences mechanical behavior and durability.

  • Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and contribute to conference presentations.

  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate students in laboratory techniques and research methods.

  • Support the operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment and facilities, including procurement of supplies and liaison with vendors and suppliers.

Job Requirements:

  • PhD in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics or a related field.

  • Strong background with experimental characterization of polymer materials, including mechanical testing, rheology, and structural analysis.

  • Experience in polymer synthesis or preparation.

  • Experience with controlled polymerization techniques (e.g. RAFT, ATRP), molecular weight characterization (e.g. GPC/SEC), and rheological analysis (e.g. time-temperature superposition) is an advantage.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to prepare manuscripts and present research findings.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment.

We regret to inform that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
