Job Description
The Signature Research Programme in Neuroscience and Behavioural Disorders (NBD) is focused on understanding the structure and function of the nervous system, and the neural mechanisms underlying human neurological, psychiatric and ophthalmological disorders.
A postdoctoral research fellow position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Jun Nishiyama (https://www.duke-nus.edu.sg/directory/detail/nishiyama-jun). The successful candidate will lead a project to investigate molecular mechanisms of synaptic function and dysfunction in neuropsychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia, Alzheimer's disease, and autism. The lab combines cutting-edge molecular and optical approaches, including in vivo CRISPR genome editing, 2-photon FLIM imaging, super-resolution imaging, proteomics, and computational analysis, and mouse genetics. We are looking for highly qualified and motivated individuals with a PhD and/or M.D. degree in neuroscience or closely related fields. We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds who have the desire to learn and develop new techniques in different fields.
The selected candidate will perform a variety of research activities which include planning, organizing and conducting research studies within the overall scope of a research project under the supervision of the Principal Investigator or his/her designate, including but not limited to the following: -
- Independently and efficiently carry out research projects required by the research component of the project.
- Interact and collaborate with other researchers and students actively.
- Write and review research papers, present research outcomes, conceptualise new ideas and develop plans for independent research which could have a considerable influence and impact on the relevant field attracting research funding.
- Prepare and submit research proposals and grant applications.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to undergraduate / medical students and junior researchers.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Job Requirements
- PhD or MD/PhD degree in neuroscience or related fields with strong background in molecular and cellular neuroscience.
- Outstanding entry level graduate without prior publications are also welcome to apply.
- Proven track record in the form of first-author peer-reviewed publications.
- Experience in synapse imaging, electrophysiology, and/or computational analysis would be advantageous.
- Demonstrated capability of research independence progressively.
- Possess strong writing and critical thinking skills, as well as good communication and presentation.
- A strong team player with a collaborative mindset who is open-minded, energetic, and highly motivated.
