We are looking for a Research Fellow to conduct/assist research and product development on meta-material mechanism/actuators, mechatronic elements, and their integration into automotive applications. The role involves applied research, mechanism and actuator development, and collaboration with industry partners to drive innovation in advanced actuators/mechanisms.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct research on advanced mechatronic elements, meta-material mechanism/actuators and smart material-based actuators and their integration into automotive applications in collaboration with partnering industries.
Screen, select and develop actuator technologies, materials and mechanism with the scope of integrating into a product.
Define actuator designs, integration approaches, and reliability testing from mechanical and chemical perspectives.
Support qualification processes and failure analysis.
Scout and benchmark selected/designed actuator technologies contribute to technology roadmaps.
Perform market research, maintain the internal design and prototype database, and recommend solutions for application projects.
Collaborate with institutions and departments on display system materials evaluation (actuators technologies, mechanical design of mechanism, integration technologies).
Document projects and prepare technical reports.
Manage engineering tasks to ensure timely completion within scope.
Job Requirements:
PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field, with at least 1 year of relevant experience
Advanced knowledge of mechanical metamaterials/mechanisms and actuator technologies, manufacturing processes, instrumentation, and mechanical characterization, with emphasis on novel mechanisms.
Strong understanding of mechatronic systems, integration methods, and manufacturing processes
Hands-on mentality with Experience in actuators characterization, electro-mechanical characterization, mechatronic instrumentation for driving actuators and material properties characterization: Mechanical characterizations, DMA and (SEM, EDS, XRD, Microscopy would be a plus)
Able to build up a network and experience working in cross-functional and international teams.
Prefer knowledge of CAD tools like SolidWorks or CATIA and simulation tools like ANSYS or COMSOL with focus on mechanism/structure design and optimization.
Basic reporting, documentation, and presentation: Microsoft office
