Job Description

The Research Fellow at National Centre for Advanced Integrated Photonics (NCAIP) will contribute to the development of integrated polaritonic devices and waveguides, with emphasis on long-range polariton propagation, low-energy switching concepts, few-particle modulation of condensate nonlinearities, integrated polaritonic circuit functions, and coupling of polaritonic states to on-chip detection/readout architectures.

Key Responsibilities:

As an integral part of the project, the Research Fellow is expected to conduct research in integrated polaritonic devices and waveguides, including the design, fabrication, optimization and experimental characterization of polaritonic waveguides, polariton lasers, cavity/waveguide networks, and polaritonic circuit elements. The role includes developing and operating advanced optical spectroscopy setups measuring propagation, emission, nonlinear response, switching behaviour, photon-correlation behaviour, and coupling to detection/readout platforms and supporting the development of long-range polaritonic waveguiding platforms and polaritonic logic or routing functions.

The Research Fellow is expected to work, generate ideas and experimentally prove them both independently and within team-working efforts with other researchers working on the project to deliver state‑of‑the‑art single‑photon imaging capabilities, and to disseminate results through publications, reports, and IP contributions.

Requirements:

  • PhD in Physics, Photonics, Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.

  • Strong research background in experimental optics, photonics, optical spectroscopy, exciton-polariton physics, nonlinear optics, semiconductor optics, or related areas.

  • Proven publication record in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals.

  • Experience in designing, aligning, and operating advanced optical setups involving lasers, microscopy, spectroscopy, and imaging systems is preferred.

  • Experience in polariton devices, photonic waveguides, topological photonics, photonic crystals, or single-photon measurement techniques is advantageous.

  • Proficiency in scientific programming and data analysis tools such as Python or MATLAB.

  • Strong analytical, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently in a research environment.
