Job Description

The Research Fellow at NTU's National Centre for Advanced Integrated Photonics (NCAIP) will support the development of integrated polaritonic devices and waveguides, focusing on long-range polariton propagation, low-energy switching, few-particle modulation of condensate nonlinearities, integrated polaritonic circuit functions, and coupling of polaritonic states with on-chip detection and readout architectures. The role will involve advanced optical spectroscopy and characterization techniques, including real-space and Fourier-space imaging, polarization- and time-resolved measurements, room-temperature and cryogenic testing, while working closely with device integration teams to advance integrated polaritonic systems.

Key Responsibilities:

As an integral part of the project, the Research Fellow is expected to conduct research in integrated polaritonic devices and waveguides, including the design, fabrication, optimization and experimental characterization of polaritonic waveguides, polariton lasers, cavity/waveguide networks, and polaritonic circuit elements.

  • Design, fabricate, assemble, optimize and experimentally characterize integrated polaritonic devices and waveguides.

  • Develop and operate optical spectroscopy setups involving real-space/Fourier-space imaging, polarization-resolved spectroscopy, time-resolved photoluminescence, electroluminescence, and room-temperature and/or cryogenic measurements.

  • Investigate low-power and few-particle polaritonic effects, including condensate nonlinearities, low-energy switching, single- or few-polariton emission regimes, photon-correlation behaviour, and routes toward polaritonic logic or routing functions.

  • Develop long-range polaritonic waveguiding platforms, polariton propagation measurements, electrical or optical routing schemes, and integration of polaritonic waveguides with single-photon detection where relevant.

  • Collaborate with photonic device integration teams and CDPT partners to support device fabrication, assembly, testing and prototype demonstration.

  • Operate and maintain research laboratories, including advanced microscopy and spectroscopy equipment, in compliance with safety and laboratory protocols.

  • Perform data analysis and interpretation, prepare scientific publications, contribute to research reports and IP disclosures, and present findings at international conferences.

  • Collaborate with internal and external partners on joint research projects and technology development.

  • Contribute to progress reports, project meetings, day-to-day laboratory operations, future grant proposals, and the development and protection of intellectual property.

Requirements:

  • PhD in Physics, Optical/Photonic Engineering, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Relevant research experience in experimental optics, optical spectroscopy, photonics, exciton-polariton physics, nonlinear optics, semiconductor optics, polaritonic waveguides, or related fields.

  • Proven publication record in reputable international peer-reviewed journals.

  • Hands-on experience in optical system design, alignment, operation, and advanced characterization techniques, including laser-based and imaging setups.

  • Competent in scientific programming and data analysis (e.g., Python/Matlab), with strong communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a research environment.

We regret to inform that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
