Research Engineer/Senior Research Engineer, (AFS / PCP), SIMTech

We are seeking a motivated individual to join the Polymer and Composite Processing Group as a Research Engineer/Senior Research Engineer. In this exciting role, you will contribute to the product redesign of aircraft cabin interior components, support the development of polymer and composite processing technologies to drive value-added manufacturing in Singapore. You will gain hands-on experience across both research and industrial environments, where you may be involved in process innovation, product structural testing and failure analysis.

JOB DESCRIPTION

• Lead / support the technical execution and delivery of projects in thermoforming, composite moulding or polymer melt-flow processes
• Prepare 2D & 3D CAD drawings for component and tooling
• Conduct prototype fabrication, pre-production fitment trials, product quality control and laboratory tests, to ensure timely project delivery
• Conduct material characterization and material testing for polymer and composites
• Conduct part failure analysis and FE simulations as required for product redesign and improvement projects
• Maintain accurate records of production work orders, laboratory data, methodologies, results and technical drawings
• Prepare presentation and reports, research project proposals and risk assessment/ safe work procedure documents
• Support in the sourcing, quotation and procurement of project consumables and services
• Lead/Support the innovation and development of other polymer process technologies

JOB REQUIREMENT

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Material Science & Engineering or equivalent.
• Proficiency in using CAD software with at least 1 year experience in mechanical design.
• Comfortable with handling heavy equipment operations, conduct physical experiment work and process troubleshooting.
• Prior hands-on experience in polymeric material processing, specifically in thermoforming, injection moulding or composite processing, will be highly advantageous.
• Strong willingness to acquire new knowledge and skills, including material testing, design of jigs for part testing, Singapore Airworthiness Regulation requirements, etc.
• Exemplary attention to detail and technically inclined towards process and laboratory work
• Comfortable with customer/vendor interactions and adept in handling project negotiations
• (optional) Basic knowledge in finite element structural modelling or any experience in process simulation.
