Purpose of the Role
As a Research Engineer, you will contribute to the design and development of mobility and transportation simulation solutions, digital twin platforms, and AI-enabled optimization technologies to address urban mobility, logistics, and infrastructure challenges in Southeast Asia.
This fixed-term position will support research projects, prototype development, demonstrations, and exhibition activities. You will work closely with researchers and engineers to translate research concepts into practical applications through simulation model development, software engineering, machine learning, system design, and model evaluation.
Responsibilities
- Assemble and configure model components for mesoscopic and microscopic simulation.
- Design and develop simulation workflows and application logic to model object movement and system behaviour.
- Draw, configure, and align simulation objects and supporting functions.
- Develop software modules and support functions for simulation execution, analysis, and visualization.
- Prepare and maintain scripts for simulation execution workflows.
- Process, analyse, and visualize simulation input and output data.
- Support simulation result analysis, validation, and optimization.
- Conduct testing, debugging, and troubleshooting to ensure solution quality and reliability.
- Support development of prototypes, demonstrations, and exhibition systems for research initiatives and customer engagements.
- Collaborate with researchers, engineers, and project stakeholders on solution design and implementation.
- Support AI/ML model integration and optimization activities where applicable.
- Maintain proper version control and comprehensive documentation of model structures, workflows, and development activities.
- Stay updated on emerging technologies related to mobility, transportation, simulation, digital twins, and artificial intelligence.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Civil Engineering, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related discipline.
- Fresh graduates are welcome to apply. Candidates with 2-5 years of relevant industry experience will be advantageous.
- Experience designing and developing simulation models using tools such as AnyLogic.
- Knowledge of simulation methodologies, including discrete-event simulation and agent-based simulation.
- Experience with web application development, including API design and integration.
- Experience using GIS (Geographic Information System) tools such as ArcGIS or QGIS.
- Working knowledge of geospatial data standards and formats, including OpenStreetMap, GeoJSON, and Shapefile.
- Proficiency in Java and Python programming.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Transportation Systems, Industrial Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related field.
- Experience with data management and relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
- Knowledge of optimization techniques and AI/ML methodologies.
- Experience with 3D simulation or digital twin platforms such as Unity or Omniverse.
- Experience with 3D geospatial visualization platforms such as Cesium.
- Familiarity with BI and data visualization tools such as Tableau or Qlik.
- Experience in mobility, transportation, logistics, smart city, or infrastructure-related projects.
- Experience working in research, innovation, proof-of-concept, or prototype development environments.
