RESPONSIBILITIES
The candidate will be responsible for conducting research on applying novel deep learning architectures to solve clinical dental problems. Successful candidate will be part of an active research team led by Prof SUN Qianru from School of Computing and Information Systems (SCIS), Singapore Management University (SMU).
Candidate's core responsibilities are:
- Bridge the gap between clinical dentists (who define the problems) and computer scientists (who design the AI).
- Execute rapid prototyping of baseline models to test ideas quickly.
- Generate preliminary data needed to support competitive grant applications.
- Establish engineering standards such as robust version control and containerization.
- Ensure technical continuity by maintaining clean, reproducible code and preventing the loss of work (code rot) common with short-term projects.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS- Minimum bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Information Systems or closely related disciplines from an institution of higher learning with particular focus on deep learning.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant research experience in deep learning.
- Proficiency in programming software/languages such as Python and C++ will be positively considered/ is required.
- Proven track record and professional experience in Software Engineering or Machine Learning Operations (MLOps).
- Demonstrated experience and know-how on Containerization (e.g., Docker) and Version Control (e.g., Git).
- Excellent working knowledge of Deep Learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow).
- Technical skills in Medical Image Analysis or Computer Vision.
- Ability to break down complex problems and design effective solutions.
- Innovating new approaches and thinking outside the box.
- Applicants with research publications in Deep Learning or Medical Imaging area will be advantageous.
- Ability to work cooperatively as part of a small, agile academic research team is essential.
- Self-motivated individual who can work independently and collaboratively with team members.
