The School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology (CCEB) at NTU Singapore, in collaboration with Wageningen University & Research (WUR), is part of Singapore Indoor Farming System (SingFarm)-a CREATE-NRF programme focused on building a sustainable, data-driven food production model with strong industry relevance to contribute Singapore's ambition in achieving 20 per cent local production of its fiber (vegetables, mushrooms etc.) by 2035. The candidate would be working in a multinational team at the forefront of Singapore's agricultural innovation and food security.
The position of Research Associate/Research Fellow will focus investigating the metabolic basis of agronomic and nutritional traits in Brassica crops through advanced metabolomics and multi-omics integration. The candidate will apply high-resolution metabolic profiling and data-driven approaches to uncover phytochemical diversity, identify metabolite-gene associations, and elucidate pathways underlying traits such as disease resistance, quality, and nutritional value. The role will contribute to linking metabolite composition with genetic variation and gene expression, enabling the discovery of key regulatory mechanisms and supporting targeted metabolic engineering strategies to enhance crop performance and nutritional quality.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform metabolite profiling of segregating plant populations to identify compounds associated with traits such as disease resistance, quality, and shelf life
Integrate metabolomic and genetic datasets to uncover metabolite-gene relationships
Identify candidate metabolic pathways and underlying genes associated with target traits
Conduct functional characterization and validation of candidate genes to elucidate their biological roles
Research Associate (Master's level)
Master's degree in Plant Biology, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, or a related field
Strong biochemistry and plant genetics background
Experience with plant molecular biology techniques
Strong analytical skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team
Independent and proactive working attitude
Open and clear communication
Research Fellow (PhD level)
PhD degree in Plant Biotechnology, Molecular Genetics, Plant Physiology, or a closely related discipline
Demonstrated experience with biochemistry, plant genetics and plant molecular biology techniques
Strong analytical skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team
Independent and proactive working attitude
Open and clear communication
Proven ability to lead experiments, analyze data, and publish research
