Job Description

Join Our Team at the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore

The School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (SPMS) at NTU Singapore hosts research and education activities in two divisions: Division of Mathematical Sciences (MAS) and Division of Physics and Applied Physics (PAP). MAS covers diverse topics ranging from pure mathematics to the applications of mathematics in cryptography, computing, business, and finance. PAP covers many areas of fundamental and applied physics, including quantum information, condensed matter physics, biophysics, and photonics. Over the years, SPMS has attracted talented individuals from around the world and Singapore to join as scientific leaders and researchers.

Position Available: Research Associate Plasma physics for Fusion Energy

Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will study electromagnetic turbulence in tokamak boundary plasmas using a three-dimensional, flux-driven, nonlinear two-fluid simulation code. The project aims to understand how electromagnetic fluctuations affect turbulence and particle and heat transport in the plasma edge and scrape-off layer. The Research Associate will be based at NTU and work closely with the plasma research group and international collaborators.

The holder will:

  • Conduct theoretical and numerical studies of electromagnetic turbulence and transport in tokamak boundary plasmas.

  • Develop and test physical models and numerical capabilities within a three-dimensional two-fluid simulation framework.

  • Perform linear and nonlinear simulations on high-performance computing systems.

  • Verify simulation results against analytical predictions, conservation laws, and benchmark cases.

  • Analyse fluctuations, turbulent transport, and energy transfer using dedicated diagnostics.

  • Contribute to code documentation, scientific reports, publications, and research presentations.

Job Requirements:

  • Master's degree in physics or a closely related discipline.

  • A sound foundation in theoretical physics, particularly electromagnetism and fluid dynamics, with basic knowledge of plasma physics.

  • Familiarity with scientific programming and numerical methods for solving differential equations.

  • Background in theoretical physics, with basic knowledge of plasma physics.

  • Ability to analyse simulation data and interpret results using physical principles.

  • Capability to work effectively in an international environment.

The College of Science seeks a diverse and inclusive workforce and is committed to equality of opportunity. We welcome applications from all and recruit on the basis of merit, regardless of age, race, gender, religion, marital status and family responsibilities, or disability.

Interested applicants are invited to apply directly at our NTU Career Portal.

We regret to inform that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
