About TUMCREATE

TUMCREATE is a multidisciplinary research platform of the Technical University Munich (TUM) at the Singapore Campus for Research Excellence and Technological Enterprise (CREATE). We are joining forces with universities, public agencies, and industry for the advancement of future technologies.

Our research program HEARTwise - Heart failure assessment with reliable technology using wearables and in vitro diagnostics, funded by Singapore's National Research Foundation (NRF), is a collaborative effort between the Technical University Munich (TUM), the National University Health System (NUHS), National Heart Centre Singapore (NHCS) and National University of Singapore (NUS). In the HEARTwise Data Privacy team at TUMCREATE, we will develop privacy-enhancing technologies for patient-centric wearable-based data acquisition and telemedicine.

As part of the HEARTwise team, you will work in an interdisciplinary team alongside renowned scientists in cardiology, telemedicine, biomedical engineering, acoustics, and data privacy.

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled researcher in the domain of cybersecurity and privacy-enhancing technologies for medical IoT applications. Within HEARTwise, you will develop a patient-centric data privacy architecture for wearable devices and research novel cybersecurity approaches to maximize privacy of patient data using technologies such as zero-knowledge proofs and homomorphic encryption.

This is a fixed-term contract for a minimum period of 2 years with the possibility of extension, subject to project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop a patient-centric data privacy architecture for wearable devices.
  • Research novel approaches to maximize the privacy of patient data using technologies such as zero-knowledge proofs and homomorphic encryption.
  • Collaborate with experts in cardiology, telemedicine, biomedical engineering, acoustics, and data privacy.
  • Write scientific manuscripts, contribute to project reports, and present findings at international conferences and stakeholder meetings.


Key Competencies

  • Proven expertise in the domain of cybersecurity and/or privacy-enhancing technologies, preferably with prior experience in the medical cybersecurity domain.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to communicate complex analytical results to multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, international research environment.

Qualification Requirements

  • We are seeking for a candidate with a Master's degree in an engineering / scientific discipline such as computer science, electrical engineering, bioengineering or related fields with a focus on cybersecurity / privacy in medical applications.
  • Ideally, the candidate has an interdisciplinary education that facilitates collaboration with medical and bioengineering teams.
  • Software development and networking skills are necessary. Required programming languages: Java, Python, C/C++, Rust.
  • Prior experience with medical device / hospital IT systems is advantageous.
