Research Assistant AI and National Development in Singapore

I am inviting applications for a Research Assistant position to contribute to a research project on AI and National Development in East and Southeast Asia
This project examines how artificial intelligence (AI) is shaping national development strategies, governance structures, and innovation ecosystems in Asia with an initial focus on Singapore, China, and Indonesia.
Responsibilities
- Collect, analyze, and synthesize national AI policies and strategies from Singapore
- Map key stakeholders and institutional ecosystems involved in the formulation and implementation of national AI policies.
- Assist in organizing and conducting interviews with policymakers, industry leaders, and research organizations, particularly in Singapore
- Opportunity to contribute to research outputs including policy briefs, academic papers, and presentations.
Qualifications
- For the Research Assistant role: a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Urban Studies, STS (Science and Technology Studies), or a related field.
- Strong research, analytical, and writing skills.
- Familiarity with AI governance, technology policy, or innovation ecosystems is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of or ability to arrange interviews with key private sector stakeholders in AI innovation and/or public sector AI governance in Singapore
- Fluency in English; proficiency in Mandarin (written + spoken) is an advantage.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research environment.
Appointment Details
- 50% commitment, up to 20 hours/week (must be in Singapore), but remote work is possible
- Bi-weekly meetings with project lead at SMU.
- This is a fixed-term appointment for four months (late Jan/February-May)
