The National Institute of Education invites suitable applications for the position of Research Assistant on a 12-month contract at the .

Project Title:

Evaluating the Effectiveness of the Test Anxiety Survivors Education-Revised (TASE-R) Program on Test Anxiety, Perceived Academic Stress, Test-Taking Coping Skills, and Well-Being among Secondary and Junior College (JC) Students in Singapore.

Project Introduction:

We are seeking a highly motivated individual who shares our passion in working with youths and promoting positive changes in their school overall psychosocial well-being. Candidates who are interested in mental health issues, psychological well-being, and intervention research on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and test anxiety, as well as have the genuine interest in making a significant impact on the lives of youths are strongly encouraged to apply. The current project will be to evaluate the effectiveness of a classroom-based intervention program in reducing students test anxiety and promoting PERMA wellbeing dimensions and coping skills. This research will employ a cluster-randomized efficacy trial in which intact classes are randomly assigned into either a treatment or control group and involve delivering the program to students in the treatment group. Findings of this project holds important implications for strategies that teachers and school counsellors may adopt to reduce their students test anxiety and, at the same time, to increase their psychosocial wellbeing. The successful candidate will work closely with PCHD faculty members.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree with Honors in Psychology
  • Experience with conducting psychological and educational research, especially in implementing psychosocial intervention programs with youths.
  • Experience in project management for at least 2 years after graduation, preferably in the field of education or psychology, research and analysis
  • Experience in data collection
  • Skills to carry out literature reviews
  • Strong skills to conduct quantitative data analysis using various data analytic tools (e.g., Mplus, SPSS, R Studio etc.).
  • Excellent interpersonal, collaborative, written and verbal communication skills. Effective team player who can work independently and flexibly in a small team
  • Familiarity with the Singapore education system (mainstream secondary schools & JCs)
  • Good organizational skills and able to work within tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated excellence in scientific writing, supported by published papers, relative to the candidate's post-degree research experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Take charge of communication with participating schools and students and of coordinating the overall logistics of the implementation of the intervention program.
  • Take the lead in administering psychometric surveys and data collection
  • Organize, code and analyze quantitative and survey-based data.
  • Contribute to the dissemination of research findings including conducting literature reviews, preparing academic publications (e.g., conference presentation, paper, book) and research reports.
  • Assist the Principal Investigator in coordinating day-to-day research activities.
  • Perform other tasks as required by the Principal Investigator.
