Job Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for a Research Assistant position to work on a project Studying ageing hearts using single cell transcriptomics in the Cardiovascular-Metabolic Disease Translational Research Programme (CVMD-TRP), Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The CVMD-TRP dedicated to advancing the understanding of cardiovascular metabolic diseases and developing innovative therapies that can make a real difference in the lives of patients. This project focuses on a deeper understanding of cellular changes in the ageing heart. Ideal applicants will have experience with the handling and analysis of large single cell transcriptomic datasets, and tissue dissociation for cell isolation. Teamwork and readiness to learn are also highly prized in our dynamic and stimulating laboratory environment. Appointments will be made on a 1-year contract basis, in the first instance, with the possibility of extension.

Purpose and main responsibilities of the post

The Research Assistant (RA) will be responsible to, and work closely with, the Principal Investigator and study team members to handle and analyse large single cell transcriptomic datasets, to identify cell state, gene program changes and cell-cell connection networks in young and aged mammalian hearts. The RA may also aid in the dissociation of heart tissues to single cells for further studies. In line with standard requirements, the RA will be expected to maintain the highest standard of professional conduct and record keeping in accordance with policies and procedures, and may assist with any other duties of a similar nature that are delegated by the PI.

Qualifications

The applicant should:

  1. Have an undergraduate with high achievement or preferably Master's degree in bioinformatics or related discipline
  2. Be able to work independently and in a team, have an investigative nature, attention to detail
  3. Have knowledge of programming languages R, Python, and Seurat packages or equivalent
  4. Preferably have prior experience in cardiovascular research.
