Tropical Marine Science Institute (TMSI) is looking to hire a new research assistant under the project: Monitoring Harmful Algal Blooms and Bloom-Forming Species using Imaging and Molecular Techniques
Duties And Responsibilities
- Operation of linear flow imaging system in the lab
- Data collection, processing and organization
- Manual image annotation
- Neural network-based classification, including the generation of synthetic data (e.g., using Stable Diffusion XL) and fine-tuning models
- Regular field trips onboard a research vessel (may extend outside conventional office hours)
- Water profiling using multiparameter optical sensors
- Water collection for quality analysis
- Other lab-based work
- Water filtration for molecular analysis
- Chemical analysis
Qualifications
- Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent
- Degree in Marine Science, Science or equivalent
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English
- Proficient in MATLAB
- Familiarity with Python and PyTorch is an advantage
