Job Description

The Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) is a University Research Institute at Nanyang Technological University Singapore that conducts fundamental research on earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, and climate change in and around Southeast Asia, towards safer and more sustainable societies. The Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) invite applications for the position of Research Assistant.

The Research Assistant will join a new project awarded by the Public Utilities Board (PUB) and Coastal Protection and Flood Resilience Institute Singapore (CFI) collecting data from the Johor Strait to better protect Singapore's coastline amidst climate change. This is an international, multi-institutional and trans-disciplinary program involving top researchers from the local and international community that aims to understand sediment budgets and source-to-sink relationships. Understanding the relationship between local climate drivers, coastal processes and sediment dynamics will allow for improved predictions of coastal change under the variety of climate scenarios in the coming decades.

The work will involve assisting in the preparation and coordination for field surveys, organization and management of field and lab equipment, purchases and procurement assisting in laboratory analyses and communications for internal reporting and preparing external reports. Active participation in research will be encouraged, and support for publication and meeting/conference presentations can be available.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, monitor and track all project submission of grant progress, claims, deliverables and other documents to ensure timely response and adherence to the service delivery

  • Maintain efficient data collection to ensure accuracy and completeness of data and preparation of the Data Management Plan for annual submission

  • Manage and monitor research grant utilization and budget expenditures including but not limited to procurements, expenditures, billings.

  • Maintaining documentation record of all grant expenditure on field trips, business trips and equipment purchase

  • Plan and manage field and business trips logistics

  • Ensure funds are utilized in accordance with funding guidelines

  • Assist in the preparation and writing of progress reports and academic papers

  • Coordinate various activities (i.e., project meetings) within the research team

  • Engage in the dissemination of the results of the research with the support of and under the supervision of the Principal Investigator

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree with at least 1 year of working experience degree in the Earth Sciences or Geography will be an advantage.

  • Ability to work independently and possess strong follow-through skills

  • A team player in a project setting, also with ability to work independently in a multi-cultural team environment

  • Experience with government-funded research grant management will be an advantage

  • Excellent planning and coordination skills

  • Demonstrated good analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
