Job Description
A Research Fellow position in Associate Prof Gautam Sethi research team, at the Department of Pharmacology, School of Medicine, National University of Singapore.
- Experimental Work
- Lead the design, execution, and troubleshooting of experiments related to microbial short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) and their role in mucosal healing in ulcerative colitis.
- Conduct advanced molecular biology, immunology, and microbiome analyses, including metagenomics, metabolomics, and immunophenotyping of colonic tissues.
- Develop and optimize small animal models of colitis to investigate the mechanistic role of SCFA-producing microbes in mucosal repair.
- Perform data analysis using computational pipelines for microbiome and metabolite profiling, ensuring high scientific rigor and reproducibility.
- Contribute to manuscript writing, conference presentations, and preparation of reports for funding agencies.
- Laboratory and Safety Management
- Ensure adherence to all biosafety, IACUC, and ORMC regulations in conducting animal and microbial experiments.
- Train junior members in proper laboratory safety and animal ethics compliance.

Deliverables and Outcomes
- Drive publications in top-tier peer-reviewed journals arising from the project.
- Support the generation of preliminary data for follow-up grant applications.
- Contribute to achieving the manpower development KPI by training at least two Master's and Honours students during the project period.
