Job Description

We are currently partnering with a rapidly growing AI and data infrastructure business with expanding operations across Southeast Asia to appoint a RegionalLegal Counsel, Southeast Asia.

This is a newly created position and an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded lawyer to take ownership of a regional legal function, working closely with senior leadership, customers, commercial teams and external counsel across multiple Southeast Asian markets.

About The Role

As the first dedicated in-house legal hire for the region, you will have significant ownership and autonomy across commercial, regulatory and corporate legal matters.

The majority of your time will be focused on commercial contracting, while also providing legal and regulatory guidance to support the business's regional growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review and negotiate customer, partner, vendor, channel and data processing agreements
  • Lead negotiations for strategic and high-value commercial contracts
  • Develop legal templates, contract playbooks and approval processes from the ground up
  • Advise the business on data protection, regulatory compliance and emerging AI governance requirements
  • Monitor and assess regulatory developments across Southeast Asia, including Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand
  • Select, instruct and manage external legal counsel across the region
  • Develop and manage a regional external counsel panel and legal budget
  • Partner closely with senior management and commercial teams to identify and manage legal risks
  • Provide practical, commercially focused legal advice and recommendations
  • Support corporate, employment, intellectual property and other legal matters as required

Key Requirements

  • 4–7 years of post-qualification experience
  • Qualified in Singapore or another common law jurisdiction, with Singapore registration or eligibility
  • Strong commercial contracting experience, with the ability to independently draft and negotiate complex agreements
  • Demonstrated data protection experience across at least two Southeast Asian jurisdictions
  • Experience instructing and managing external counsel
  • Strong commercial judgement with the ability to provide clear and practical recommendations
  • Comfortable operating independently and taking ownership of a broad legal portfolio
