Job Description
The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly motivated and hands-on R&D Battery Engineer to support the development of next-generation lithium-ion and emerging battery technologies. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys laboratory experimentation, battery prototyping, materials characterization, and electrochemical testing, while also having a strong interest in developing simulation capabilities using COMSOL Multiphysics and other battery modeling tools.
The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to investigate battery materials, understand cell performance and degradation mechanisms, and build simulation models that accelerate product development and innovation.
What will you do
- Conduct hands-on battery materials research, cell assembly, and electrochemical testing to evaluate and improve battery performance, safety, and reliability.
- Design and execute experiments, analyse test data, and investigate cell behaviour, degradation mechanisms, and failure modes.
- Develop and validate battery cell simulation models using COMSOL Multiphysics, with training provided as needed.
- Correlate experimental results with simulation outputs to support material selection, cell design optimization, and product development.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive innovation, document technical findings, and stay current with advancements in battery materials, electrochemistry, and modelling technologies.
What we're looking for
- Bachelor's, Master's degree or PhD in Material Science, Chemistry, Electrochemistry, Engineering, or related fields.
- 1 to 2 years of experience or demonstrable skills in experimental design and hands-on work with coin or pouch cell fabrication and testing.
- Prior exposure in Project & R&D laboratory setting
- Familiarity or interest in software tools for data analysis and simulation in battery research.
- Any prior experience in industrial R&D, especially in battery or energy storage-related projects, would be advantageous.
- Knowledge or exposure to characterization techniques (e.g., impedance spectroscopy, SEM, TEM, X-ray techniques) is advantageous but not mandatory
