Job Summary
The R&D and Product Manager will lead innovation, product development, and product lifecycle management for KompacPlus material solutions. This role is responsible for researching new surface materials, improving fabrication processes, managing product strategy, and ensuring products are technically strong and commercially successful.
The position bridges technical development and market strategy, working closely with Production, Sales, Procurement, Marketing, and Quality Assurance teams to ensure products are competitive, cost-effective, and aligned with customer needs.
Key Responsibilities
1. Research & Product Development
- Lead development of new surface materials, carpentry systems, and fabrication solutions.
- Conduct research on material performance, durability, sustainability, and cost optimization.
- Develop prototypes, mock-ups, and samples for testing and validation.
- Improve existing products to enhance quality, functionality, and aesthetics.
- Evaluate new technologies, materials, and industry trends.
2. Product Strategy & Lifecycle Management
- Develop and execute product strategies for KompacPlus product lines.
- Manage full product lifecycle from concept to launch and discontinuation.
- Define and maintain product roadmap aligned with company goals.
- Conduct market research on trends, competitors, and customer demands.
- Monitor product performance, profitability, and market positioning.
- Recommend product enhancement, expansion, or phase-out plans.
3. Process Innovation & Production Improvement
- Analyze production processes to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
- Collaborate with CNC operators and production teams to refine fabrication methods.
- Implement lean manufacturing and process optimization initiatives.
- Ensure product designs are manufacturable and scalable.
- Identify opportunities for automation or technical upgrades.
4. Technical Testing & Quality Management
- Conduct material testing (heat resistance, moisture resistance, strength, chemical resistance, etc.).
- Establish product specifications, SOPs, and technical documentation.
- Work with QA team to ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Investigate product issues and implement corrective actions.
5. Commercial & Market Support
- Work closely with Sales team to gather market feedback and identify opportunities.
- Support technical presentations, tender submissions, and client meetings.
- Analyze sales performance, margins, and product profitability.
- Develop product value propositions and key selling points.
- Conduct product training for internal teams and customers.
6. Pricing & Cost Control
- Conduct feasibility studies and cost analysis for new products.
- Work with Procurement to source materials and evaluate suppliers.
- Review cost structures and recommend pricing strategies.
- Monitor raw material cost impact on margins.
7. Project & Budget Management
- Manage R&D and product development timelines and budgets.
- Prioritize projects based on business strategy.
- Report progress and performance to senior management.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously.
8. Compliance & Sustainability
- Research environmentally sustainable materials and practices.
- Ensure products comply with local regulations and building standards.
- Explore green certifications and eco-label opportunities.
Job Requirements
Experience
- Minimum 5-8 years of experience in R&D, product development, or manufacturing.
- At least 2-3 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
- Experience in solid surface materials, carpentry, cabinetry, or building materials industry preferred.
- Experience in product lifecycle management is an advantage.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of surface materials (solid surface, quartz, laminates, wood panels, etc.).
- Familiar with CNC machining and fabrication processes.
- Understanding of material testing and quality control standards.
- Proficient in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) preferred.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.
- Strong understanding of product costing and margin analysis.
