Job Description

About the role

We are seeking a Salesforce DevOps/Test Automation Engineer to support the end-to-end delivery of solutions with Salesforce as the core platform. You will help design, implement, and run CI/CD pipelines, manage deployments across environments, and build automated tests to ensure implementation quality, regression stability, and release reliability. For senior hires, you will design the DevOps strategy, shape the environment architecture, advise on tools and frameworks, and coach the development team. The role may also involve working with complementary technologies (e.g. AWS, Azure, MuleSoft).

What you will do

DevOps Planning Responsibilities (for Seniors only)

Design the Salesforce environment strategy (sandboxes, scratch orgs, production), including alignment with integrated systems such as MuleSoft and other platforms.

Establish standards for source-driven development (Git branching, pull requests, quality gates).

Architect, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, or Jenkins.

Define deployment models, metadata/package strategies, and environment data management guidelines (backups, masking).

Define release KPIs (deployment success rate, lead time for change, change failure rate) and drive continuous improvement.

Evaluate toolsets for DevOps and automation to ensure alignment with enterprise architecture and security requirements.

Evaluate and recommend test automation tools suitable for the broader IT landscape.

DevOps Execution Responsibilities (Engineer + Senior)

Orchestrate deployments across environments in partnership with functional leads, developers and QA teams.

Review and support merge requests; coach developers on deployment best practices, SFDX usage, and metadata handling.

Execute and manage back-merges to maintain alignment across branches/environments.

Troubleshoot build/deployment failures, conduct root cause analysis, and implement preventive fixes.

Ensure adherence to governance, secure credential handling, and configuration management standards.

Monitor pipeline runs, deployment logs, and quality gates, proactively addressing issues.

Test Automation Responsibilities (Engineer + Senior)

Build and maintain automated test frameworks for Salesforce UI, API, and componentlevel testing (e.g. Selenium, Playwright, JMeter).

Implement static analysis, code coverage validation, and security scanning (e.g. PMD, SonarQube, SFDX scanners).

Work with developers and BAs to translate user flows into automated test scenarios.

Write automated test scripts to replace/reduce manual testing and support regression cycles.

Troubleshoot test failures, analyse root causes, and collaborate with developers to resolve issues.

Must have skills and experience

For entry-level / graduates:

o Practical experience using Git, including branching, merging, and pull request workflows.

o Basic understanding of programming fundamentals and test automation concepts.

For experienced hires (3-7 years):

o Hands-on experience in Salesforce DevOps, CI/CD, or release management (minimum 2 years on Salesforce).

o Proficiency with SFDX, metadata handling, and package/dependency management.

o Understanding of Apex test strategy, LWC Jest testing, and test data management.

o Experience integrating quality gates (e.g. PMD, SonarQube) and enforcing coverage/quality thresholds.

Experience using CI/CD tools (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, Jenkins).

Practical experience with automation tools such as Playwright, Selenium, JMeter, or equivalent.

Strong collaboration and communication skills.

Good to have

Experience with Salesforce DevOps Center, Copado, Gearset, or Flosum.

Exposure to AWS or Azure cloud platforms.

Salesforce certifications (Platform Developer I, Administrator, Platform App Builder, DevOps Center Specialist).

Familiarity with Salesforce security concepts, roles, profiles, permission sets, and secrets management.

Programming experience in Python, Java, C#, or JavaScript.

Experience in public sector projects or regulated environments.

Ways of working

Work collaboratively within an agile, sprintbased delivery environment.

Communicate progress, risks, and blockers proactively to leads and stakeholders.

Follow agreed DevOps and automation standards, continuously improving processes where possible.

Collaborate closely with developers, QA, BAs, and architects to ensure stable and predictable releases.

Advocate for automation-first approaches to improve quality and team efficiency.

Success measures

Reliable, predictable releases with a high deployment success rate and improved lead time for change.

Reduction in manual testing effort through effective automation coverage.

Fewer escaped defects due to strong quality gates and regression automation.

Positive feedback from developers, QA, and stakeholders on release cadence, communication, and support.

Effective enablement of developers, demonstrated through improved team autonomy and reduced release issues.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
