Purchaser (Marine)
Job Summary
The Marine Purchaser is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring provisions, cabin stores, and technical supplies for vessels. This role ensures timely delivery, cost efficiency, and compliance with company standards and maritime regulations while supporting vessel operations globally.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Sourcing
- Source and procure provisions (food, beverages), cabin stores (cleaning materials, linens, toiletries), and technical stores (spare parts, tools, consumables).
- Obtain quotations, evaluate suppliers, and negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules.
- Issue purchase orders and ensure accuracy in specifications and quantities.
Vendor Management
- Maintain and develop a reliable network of suppliers.
- Evaluate vendor performance based on quality, price, and delivery timelines.
- Ensure approved vendor list is up-to-date and compliant with company policies.
Logistics & Coordination
- Coordinate with vessels, port agents, and suppliers to ensure timely delivery at various ports.
- Track shipments and resolve delays, shortages, or discrepancies.
- Handle urgent and last-minute requisitions from vessels.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate procurement records, invoices, and delivery notes.
- Ensure compliance with maritime standards, safety regulations, and company procedures.
- Support audits by providing required procurement documentation.
Requirements
Education & Experience
- Diploma or Degree in Supply Chain, Maritime Studies, Logistics, or related field.
- 2-5 years of experience in marine procurement or ship chandling (preferred).
- Experience handling provisions, cabin, and technical stores is highly desirable.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong negotiation and supplier management skills.
- Knowledge of marine stores, vessel operations, and port logistics.
- Good organizational and multitasking abilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in procurement systems and Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
- Strong communication skills for coordinating with vessels and global vendors.
Other Requirements
- Ability to work under pressure and handle urgent requests.
- Familiarity with international shipping practices and documentation.
- Willingness to work beyond standard hours when required (due to vessel schedules).
