Job Description

The School of Biological Sciences (SBS), part of the College of Science at Nanyang Technological University, was established in 2002 with a mission to advance excellence in biological and biomedical sciences. Our research spans diverse and impactful areas including infectious diseases, immunology, neurodegenerative disorders, telomere biology, and genome function. SBS is home to a vibrant, international community of scientific leaders, researchers, and professionals dedicated to innovation, discovery, and education.

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Project Officer (PO) to join our research team in the field of synthetic microbiology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and construct biosynthetic pathways in microbial chassis

  • Perform gene cloning and genome editing

  • Express and characterize enzymes

  • Conduct molecular biology experiments (DNA manipulation, PCR, gel electrophoresis, DNA sequencing)

  • Maintain and manage microbial cell cultures

  • Perform bacterial transformations

  • Troubleshoot experimental procedures and optimize protocols

  • Analyze and interpret experimental data

  • Contribute actively to collaborative research efforts

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (BS) in Biology or a related discipline

  • Foundational knowledge of molecular cloning, protein expression, and purification techniques

  • Hands-on experience with PCR, gel electrophoresis, DNA sequencing, and bacterial transformation systems preferred

  • Familiarity with synthetic biology tools and concepts is an advantage

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for scientific research and teamwork
