Your Job
As a Engineer in Product Design within our Datacom and Specialty Solutions Division (DSS), you will drive the successful development of new product projects from concept through to market introduction. You will research and develop innovative designs, lead design and development activities, and support products through their lifecycle with a focus on meeting customer requirements and improving manufacturing processes.
Our Team
You will be part of a dynamic product design team working across multiple departments such as Product Marketing, Project Management, Manufacturing Operations, and Quality, spanning different time zones. Collaboration with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders is critical to your success.
What You Will Do
- Review customer requirements and conduct design feasibility studies
- Benchmark competitor designs and generate innovative design proposals using CAD
- Lead design reviews, design verification, and conduct design FMEA to ensure manufacturability and reliability
- Manage design documentation, patent considerations, and coordinate with Legal for patent opinions
- Support product introduction by visiting customers and manufacturing partners as required
- Provide engineering support for product modifications, cost reductions, and process improvements
- Participate in cost reduction activities and respond to customer design-related issues
- Support departmental initiatives
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- Degree or Diploma in Engineering (preferably Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering)
- Minimum 2 years of experience in product design and development, preferably in connector design and manufacturing
- Strong product design engineering knowledge with creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Experience in design control, management, and engineering analysis
- Effective communication and leadership abilities
- Proficient in Mandarin to better serve our Mandarin-speaking customers and collaborate with counterparts.
What Will Put You Ahead
- Experience working with NX CAD software
- Prior involvement in manufacturing environments supporting process improvements
- Familiarity with product reliability testing and agency approvals (UL, CSA, TUV)
