Summary
The Procurement & Quality Engineer is responsible for procurement, supply chain and quality management at Transcelestial, primarily for our ground-based laser communication devices. This position is part of the Hardware Team, led by Max, Transcelestial's Head of Hardware Engineering. This position interacts with the rest of the hardware, manufacturing and software design teams to assist with the overall quality management. This role also liaises with the Finance and Operations Team and will handle supply chain activities for all parts, including liaising with suppliers. This role will routinely conduct hands-on quality inspections on the manufacturing line as well as managing suppliers, performing internal and external audits and in general driving the quality work within the ISO 9001 framework.
Responsibilities
- Manage suppliers and own the supplier management program
- Own supply chain and supplier communication
- Develop and implement procurement strategies to ensure timely and cost-effective sourcing of materials.
- Conduct quality assessments and audits of suppliers to ensure compliance with company standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve quality issues in the production process.
- Procure material and components for R&D and Manufacturing
- Work closely with engineering and manufacturing to ensure the right components are available on time at the right price
- Be the hardware and manufacturing team's responsible person with regard to MRP activities and the MRP System (MRPEasy)
- Assist in the development of quality control procedures and standards.
- Drive continuous improvement work across the organization
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Physics, Optics, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical disciplines.
- Minimum of 2 years of related experience in procurement or quality engineering within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess supplier performance and quality metrics.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with suppliers and internal teams.
- Experience in quality improvement work, including ISO 9001 internal audit
- Experience implementing, managing, and using Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) or ERP systems such as MRPEasy, SAP, NetSuite
- Prior experience working with mass manufacturing lines
- Ability to detail both tools developed as well as standard operating procedures (SOP) for executing measurements
- Ability to develop and execute cohesive strategies to understand difficult problems, perform root cause analysis, and develop mitigation strategies.
