Position Overview
The Process Safety Lead Engineer plays a critical role in safeguarding personnel, assets, and the environment during all project phases (Pre-FEED, FEED, and Detailed Engineering).
This role is responsible for identifying and analyzing hazards, developing and implementing safety and loss prevention strategies, and ensuring strict compliance with regulatory and client HSE requirements for offshore oil & gas projects.
The position requires deep knowledge of offshore operations, risk management, and safety protocols to minimize risks and enable safe project execution.
Key Responsibilities
Corporate & General
Develop and maintain corporate technical standards, procedures, workflows, and engineering platforms for topside ICSS and control.
Assist the Head of Discipline in managing corporate functions and mentoring ICSS and control engineers.
Maintain and update the EPCI and O&M phase lessons learned database.
Proposal & Pre-Award Phase
Conduct conceptual and feasibility studies to propose optimal and competitive technical solutions.
Ensure engineering documents comply with relevant design codes, standards, and client specifications.
Provide technical input and risk assessments to support bid proposals, including manhour and cost estimates.
Feasibility, Pre-FEED, FEED & EPCI Phases
Communicate with clients and resolve technical queries related to design basis and scope.
Manage discipline interfaces, team resources, schedules, and mentoring of junior engineers.
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and client HSE standards.
Prepare technical reports, drawings, and deliverables with cross-discipline coordination.
Lead feasibility studies, Pre-FEED, FEED, and EPCI engineering (basic design).
Support project management in reporting progress, concerns, and recommendations.
Safety Engineering & Risk Management
Act as focal point for technical safety issues with clients and stakeholders.
Develop, review, and approve safety engineering documentation, philosophies, and specifications.
Ensure hazards are identified, assessed, and mitigated in accordance with ALARP principles.
Facilitate safety studies and workshops (HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, 3D model reviews, HF reviews, etc.).
Review and integrate safety studies into design deliverables (FRA, ERA, EERA, QRA, ship collision study, etc.).
Supervise third-party consultants in safety-related studies.
Proactively recommend safety performance improvements and innovative engineering solutions.
Operation & Maintenanace Phase
Support operation and maintenance teams in safety-related issues.
Organize and facilitate risk assessment workshops (HAZOP, brownfield modifications, revamps, or facility upgrades).
Provide ongoing technical safety support during operation phases.
Qualifications
Bachelors or Masters degree in Safety Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
Minimum 15 years experience in offshore/onshore oil & gas industry.
At least 7 consecutive years with a top-tier FPSO contractor or offshore/onshore EPC contractor.
