About the Role

This role is responsible for overseeing pharmacy operational workflows within the inpatient setting, ensuring the safe, timely, and efficient processing of medication orders and discharge prescriptions. You will lead pharmacy operations by optimising processes, supervising staff, and strengthening collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to enhance patient care and medication safety.

The position also involves managing staffing resources, driving operational improvements, and ensuring high standards of pharmaceutical service delivery to support a positive patient experience.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the accurate processing, verification, preparation, and dispensing of medication orders to ensure safe and timely delivery to patients.
  • Manage the discharge medication process to minimise waiting times and support smooth patient transitions.
  • Review and optimise pharmacy workflows to enhance efficiency and reduce the risk of medication errors.
  • Plan and manage staff schedules to ensure appropriate manpower coverage across shifts.
  • Monitor workload distribution and adjust staffing resources to maintain operational efficiency.
  • Supervise, mentor, and guide pharmacy staff to ensure adherence to procedures and service standards.
  • Coordinate onboarding and operational training for new pharmacists while supporting ongoing professional development.
  • Collaborate closely with nursing and multidisciplinary teams to strengthen medication administration processes.
  • Lead initiatives that enhance medication safety and address operational challenges.
  • Investigate and resolve medication-related feedback, incidents, or service issues in a timely manner.
  • Ensure adequate medication stock levels within inpatient care areas.
  • Oversee the implementation and utilisation of pharmacy technologies such as automated medication dispensing systems.
  • Conduct incident reviews and implement preventive measures to improve patient safety.
  • Facilitate regular team discussions to share updates, address operational concerns, and promote a positive work culture.
  • Drive initiatives aimed at improving patient experience, including patient education and service improvements.
  • Review patient feedback regularly and implement improvements where necessary.

Requirements

  • Degree in Pharmacy with professional registration.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Good analytical abilities with attention to detail when handling operational and clinical information.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Self-motivated with a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
  • Adaptable and able to perform effectively in dynamic, fast-paced environments while managing multiple priorities.
