Principal Mechanical Systems Expert (Lab & Project)

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly experienced Mechanical Systems professional to join a leading applied learning institution. This is a hands-on, senior technical role focused on applied learning, laboratory operations, and industry-relevant innovation projects.

As a Principal Mechanical Systems Expert, you will leverage your deep industry experience to mentor students, guide applied projects, and manage advanced mechanical systems labs. You will have the opportunity to shape the next generation of engineers while staying immersed in cutting-edge mechanical design and integration.

Responsibilities:

• Design and conduct lab-based exercises and practical modules in mechanical systems and mechatronics.
• Mentor students in Capstone Projects and Integrated Work Study Programmes (IWSP), applying real-world engineering expertise.
• Lead or co-lead applied research and innovation projects with industry partners.
• Manage laboratories, oversee equipment and resources, and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
• Stay current with advances in mechanical systems, materials, and controls, and guide students on best practices.

Requirement:

• Master degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related field. Professional certifications like PE are an advantage.
• More than 10+ years of hands-on experience in mechanical design, systems integration, and mechatronics.
• Expertise in:
  1. Complex mechanical systems development and integration
  2. Material and component selection, including actuators, pumps, hydraulics, and control systems
  3. CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) and simulation tools (FEA, CFD)
  4.Hands-on prototyping and fabrication skills
• Advantageous experience: material testing, programming of PLC/control systems, Ansys/Abaqus software.
• Strong applied knowledge of industry practices and engineering principles.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor students, lead projects, and solve technical challenges.
• Industrial certifications in relevant areas are a plus.
