Job Description

Position Overview

Design and lead the development of advanced optoelectronic devices-including FP lasers, DFB lasers, EMLs, and external cavity lasermodules-to meet next-generation performance and product requirements. This role involves defining and building advanced test setups and characterization capabilities aligned with the company's technology roadmap and driving the integration of these capabilities into in-house manufacturing processes. ThePrincipal Engineer will serve as a key technical authority in semiconductor laser development, guiding cross-functional teams and influencing long-term laser technology strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of new semiconductor laser-based devices, including creating advanced imaging setups for beam characterization, chip waveguide measurements, and integrating optical systemsto achieve stable wavelength and power control oversee thermal, electrical, and high-frequency performance characterization.
  • Define and lead complex experiments to characterize laser diode components, identify engineering trade-offs, and improve correlation between measurements and simulations, ensuring full integrity and traceability of test and sample data.
  • Serve as the primary technical authority and strategic point of contact for laser device development within optical engines, collaborating closely with internal engineering teams and external partners contribute to defining and executing the company's laser integration and technology roadmap.
  • Generate and review timely test reports and technical documentation, including measurement results, detailed analysis, and design recommendations to support engineering decisions.
  • Drive the full lifecycle development of laser components-from concept, design, and development through procurement, characterization, packaging, reliability qualification, and transition tohigh-volume manufacturing.
  • Work closely with manufacturing and process engineering teams to ensure design-for-manufacturability, yield optimization, and scalable production processes.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Degree or postgraduate degree (Master's, PhD, or equivalent) in optical engineering, physics, electrical engineering, or related fields strong specialization in semiconductor laser device design andcharacterization preferred.
  • 15+ years of relevant industry experience in lasers, optoelectronics, or semiconductor photonic devices, with demonstrated technical leadership in device development and productization.
  • Deep understanding of semiconductor laser device physics and fabrication processes (lithography, etching, deposition, oxidation, implantation), along with experience using laser/waveguide simulation tools (e.g., Lumerical, Crosslight).
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools (Python, Excel/JMP, Minitab, DOE) and mask layout design software (e.g., Klayout) experience correlating experimental data withsimulation models.
  • Strong technical leadership, teamwork, and cross-cultural collaboration skills ability to guide complex engineering programs and work independently in a fast-paced environment with strong written and verbal communication.
