Job Description

Job Title: Primary Drama Teacher

Department/Division: Primary

Employee Group: Teacher

Reports to: Principal

Works collaboratively with: All Teachers

Supervises: Arts and Drama Teachers

Responsibilities of Drama Teacher

. Plan and deliver engaging drama lessons aligned with the school curriculum and learning outcomes.
. Teach acting, movement, voice, improvisation, and performance skills appropriate to students age and ability levels.

. Foster students creativity, confidence, collaboration, and self-expression in a safe and inclusive environment.

. Assess, document, and report on student progress in drama using appropriate assessment strategies.

. Prepare, rehearse, and direct student performances, productions, and showcases.

. Manage classroom behaviour and ensure student safety during rehearsals and performances.

. Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary projects and school-wide events.

. Participate in departmental meetings, professional development, and school initiatives.

. Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress and performances when required.

. Maintain drama resources, costumes, props, and performance spaces responsibly.

Required Qualifications:

. Recognised teaching qualification with a specialisation in Arts, Drama, Theatre, or a related discipline.

. Relevant academic qualification (Degree or Diploma) in Arts, Drama, Theatre Studies, or Performing Arts.

. A minimum of three years teaching experience in Drama is required, preferably in an international school setting.

. Leadership or coordination experience in an arts-related role is an advantage.

. Training in child safeguarding and health & safety (or willingness to obtain).

. Training and experience in the International Baccalaureate PYP preferred.

Competencies:

. Strong knowledge of curriculum frameworks and age-appropriate pedagogy in Drama and the Arts.

. Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and support teaching staff.

. Experience in planning and delivering performances, productions, exhibitions, or showcases.

. Effective classroom management and student-centred teaching practices.

. Strong organisational, communication, and collaboration skills.

. Ability to manage resources, budgets, and facilities responsibly.

. Commitment to child safeguarding, health and safety, and inclusive education.

. Willingness to participate in school events, professional development, and continuous improvement initiatives.
