Role Overview
As a Platform Operations Engineer, you will play a critical role in maintaining and modernising the infrastructure platforms that support essential government services. You will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, scalability, and security of on-premises systems, while driving automation and operational excellence. This role involves close collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders to support infrastructure transformation initiatives, implement best practices, and provide technical support across various environments.
Responsibilities:
- Provide L2/L3 technical support for platform-related incidents, conducting problem determination and resolution.
- Support containerisation initiatives and maintain container orchestration platforms for traditional workloads where applicable.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices to automate platform provisioning and configuration management.
- Maintain backup, disaster recovery (DR), and high-availability solutions for critical platform components.
- Follow security controls implementation, including access management, security hardening, and compliance monitoring.
- Collaborate with application teams to support platform stability, performance, and scalability requirements.
- Create and maintain platform documentation, runbooks, and standard operating procedures.
- Support team members on platform operations and modern infrastructure practices.
Technical Requirements:
- Strong experience with enterprise virtualisation platforms (VMware vSphere, Hyper-V)
- Experience in storage systems (SAN, NAS) and enterprise backup solutions
- Proficiency in Linux and Windows Server administration
- Experience with infrastructure automation tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef)
- Knowledge of container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Familiarity with monitoring and observability platforms
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices
- Understanding of networking concepts and technologies
- Scripting abilities in Python, PowerShell, Bash
- Experience with high availability and disaster recovery solutions
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
- Experience in infrastructure operations and engineering
- Strong understanding of enterprise infrastructure components
- Experience supporting infrastructure modernisation initiatives
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong documentation abilities
- Effective communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

- VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
- Microsoft Certified: Windows Server
- Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
- ITIL v4 Foundation
