Job Description

Sompo Asia is entering a new phase of accelerated growth across the region, underpinned by a bold transformation of its operating model. This shift is designed to unlock scale, agility, and customer-centricity - positioning the company to capture emerging opportunities in the fast-evolving Consumer insurance landscape.

At the heart of this transformation is a renewed focus on building a future-ready Consumer business. By redesigning core processes, strengthening governance, and enabling a more connected regionallocal operating rhythm, Sompo Asia is creating the conditions needed to deliver superior value to partners, customers, and distribution ecosystems.

The Consumer Distribution team in Asia plays a pivotal role in this journey. Acting as both architect and orchestrator, the team leads the strategic development and end-to-end management of the region's most critical partnerships. These partnerships - spanning financial institutions, digital platforms, ecosystems, and affinity partners - serve as a catalyst for step-change growth. Through close collaboration with local operating markets, the team ensures timely execution, capability uplift, and a unified approach to partner engagement across Asia.

Together, the new operating model and a strengthened Consumer Distribution capability are enabling Sompo Asia to accelerate its regional ambitions, deepen market penetration, and build a scalable, partnership-led growth engine for the future.

Key Accountabilities

The role is anchored on two missioncritical focus areas that directly support Sompo Asia's Consumer growth agenda:

1) Stewardship of a MultiMarket Strategic Bancassurance Partnership

This role leads the strategic business development agenda for longterm bancassurance partnerships across key priority markets, including Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Singapore. The position is accountable for driving sustainable growth within these partnerships by shaping and executing marketspecific and regional strategies that deepen distribution effectiveness, expand product penetration, and strengthen overall partnership performance.

Acting as the central liaison between regional leadership, country teams, and banking partners, the role oversees the full partnership lifecycle - from opportunity identification and commercial negotiation to performance optimization and longterm value creation. Core responsibilities include:

Partnership Management & Growth

  • Develop annual and multiyear growth plans aligned with partnership objectives and strategic priorities.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities to deepen penetration, expand product offerings, and increase revenue. Work closely with product teams and bank partners to design, refine, and launch competitive insurance propositions tailored to customer needs.
  • Strengthen and manage daytoday relationships with partner bank stakeholders across distribution, product, marketing, and senior leadership.

Sales & Distribution Enablement

  • Collaborate with bank leaders and local teams to implement channel development strategies (e.g., branch, digital, affluent, telemarketing).
  • Drive sales performance by supporting local teams and bank channel teams with training, incentives, productivity programs, and sales activation initiatives.
  • Monitor and analyze sales KPIs, identifying gaps and recommending corrective actions to strengthen overall distribution effectiveness.

Product & Proposition Development

  • Coordinate product performance reviews and drive enhancements to improve conversion, persistency, and profitability.

Business Planning & Performance Management

  • Lead regular business reviews with the bank partner, including quarterly and annual performance assessments.
  • Track and report sales metrics, pipeline trends, campaign effectiveness, and operational performance.
  • Develop forecasts and contribute to budgeting, target-setting, and commercial negotiation cycles.

Operational & Process Excellence

  • Ensure smooth execution of partnership operations including onboarding, compliance, compensation processes, service delivery, and issue resolution.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to enhance processes, remove friction points, and improve customer and partner experience.

Marketing & Customer Engagement

  • Co-create marketing campaigns and customer engagement programs with bank partners to stimulate demand and drive leads.
  • Oversee campaign execution, track results, and ensure alignment with brand and regulatory standards.

Governance, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure adherence to bancassurance governance frameworks, regulatory requirements, and risk policies.
  • Maintain high standards of partnership discipline through documentation, reporting, and audit readiness.

Strategic Projects & Innovation

  • Lead or contribute to strategic initiatives such as digital distribution projects, capability upgrades, analytics enhancements, or new business models.
  • Drive innovation to improve customer journeys, automate processes, or enhance the competitiveness of the partnership.

2) Development and Management of HighPotential Consumer Business Partnerships

Beyond bancassurance, the role is responsible for identifying, developing, and managing strategic partnerships in the Consumer Business space with specific focus on Accident & Health (A&H). This encompasses ecosystem partners, digital platforms, affinity organizations, and other distribution partners critical to accelerating Sompo Asia's regional Consumer footprint. The role designs partnership propositions, orchestrates multi-market implementation, and drives sustainable revenue growth through a disciplined, partnership-led approach.

Together, these responsibilities position the role as a central growth engine - strengthening Sompo's presence across key markets, deepening distribution reach, and unlocking new Consumer insurance opportunities across Asia.

Opportunity Sourcing & Origination:

  • Identify, qualify, and prioritize opportunities with database owners (e.g., platforms, financial institutions, retailers, telcos, FinTechs), leveraging data-driven segmentation and customer insights.

Value Proposition Design:

  • Develop differentiated insurance propositions (embedded, affinity, bancassurance, D2C) aligned to partner/customer needs and lifecycle moments, including product fit, journey design, and Go To Market plans.

Partnership Development:

  • Lead end-to-end partner engagement from outreach, solutioning, and due diligence to negotiation and contract closure - across multiple APAC markets.

Commercial Modeling:

  • Build robust business cases (P&L, unit economics, Long Term Value of partnership, revenue shares, reinsurance structures) and define pricing/commission frameworks that balance partner value and profitability.

Internal Orchestration:

  • Work closely with Product, Actuarial, Reinsurance, Legal & Compliance, Data/Tech, Marketing, and Operations to deliver scalable regional solutions.

Regulatory & Compliance:

  • Understand and operate within insurance regulations, licensing constraints, data privacy laws, and distribution guidelines; ensure compliant operating models and marketing practices.

Ecosystem Synergies:

  • Source and integrate capabilities from insurtechs, reinsurers, TPAs, and data/tech vendors to accelerate speed-to-market and improve economics.

Performance Management:

  • Define KPIs, run pilots/experiments, monitor funnel metrics and portfolio health, and optimize conversion, claims ratio, and partner satisfaction.

Stakeholder Communication:

  • Prepare executive-ready materials (proposals, term sheets, investment cases) and provide regular updates on pipeline and performance.

Skills and Experience Requirements:

  • 15 years in general insurance (Bancassurance, Affinity, Partnership), with strong focus on distribution strategy, digital initiatives, and partner engagement. Known for thoughtful execution, collaborative leaderships, and ability to drive results across regional and local markets.
  • Proven leadership in B2B2C distribution and largescale digital transformation initiatives within consumer general insurance.
  • Strong commercial and technical understanding of general insurance financials, product structures, and the operational levers that drive profitability and scalability.
  • Compelling communicator and influencer, with a demonstrated ability to manage complex stakeholder landscapes and drive alignment across senior audiences.
  • Handson and pragmatic operator, experienced in working closely with local business units to deliver adaptable, marketspecific solutions.
  • Structured and executionfocused, with a solid track record in project management, planning, and crossfunctional delivery across multiple workstreams.
  • Energetic, resilient, and creative, able to navigate ambiguity, solve problems innovatively, and maintain momentum in complex environments.
  • Highly organized and selfmotivated, with a consistent focus on delivering measurable business outcomes.
  • Collaborative team player, known for fostering strong partnerships and effective collaboration across functions and geographies.

The role requires approximately 50% travel to key markets across the region.
