Role Description The Ordinary Seaman role at BOURBON is an on-site position based in Singapore on board company vessels. The Ordinary Seaman assists the deck crew with routine maintenance, including cleaning, painting, and basic repair tasks on deck and hull. The role involves handling mooring lines, participating in anchoring operations, and supporting cargo and supply handling under the supervision of senior officers. Daily duties also include standing watch, performing lookout duties, and following safety procedures and emergency drills in compliance with maritime regulations. The Ordinary Seaman works closely with the rest of the crew to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient vessel operations.

Qualifications

  • Possess fundamental seamanship skills, including line handling, basic knot tying, and safe deck operations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of vessel maintenance tasks such as cleaning, painting, rust removal, and simple repairs.
  • Have a solid understanding of maritime safety practices, emergency procedures, and adherence to onboard safety protocols.
  • Hold relevant maritime certifications (e.g., STCW basic safety training) and medical fitness appropriate for seafaring duties.
  • Exhibit the ability to work in a multicultural crew, follow instructions from officers, and communicate clearly in English.
  • Show readiness to work in rotating shifts and challenging offshore conditions, with strong teamwork and reliability.
  • Previous experience as an Ordinary Seaman or entry-level deck crew in offshore or maritime operations is an advantage.
